Salary: $69,526.00 - $136,894.00

Basic Function

Manage instructional design and development process for a large distance learning program, with a focus on developing and maintaining outstanding courses that meet or exceed nationally-recognized quality standards for online learning. Supervise approximately 15 employees, to include instructional designers and related staff. Manage and improve course development and review processes, collaborating with quality assurance staff, to ensure positive relationships with faculty, quality outcomes, and ability to respond rapidly to changing needs and new mandates. Develop and maintain program’s national reputation for excellence through conference presentations, publication, and visibility in professional organizations. Reporting to the Associate VP of eLearning, the coordinator will play a key leadership role as part of the distance learning program management team.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in instructional design, educational technology, or related field required.. Several years of experience working in instructional design or educational technology field required, preferably in higher education. Design experience within a learning management system required. Management/supervisory experience required. Online teaching experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate in instructional design, educational technology, or related field preferred. Blackboard experience preferred. Experience working in both education and corporate instructional design positions preferred. Community college experience preferred. Knowledge of and experience with the nationally recognized Quality Matters (QM) standards/program preferred. QM peer-reviewer (PRC) certification preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Creativity, flexibility, vision, and ability to lead diverse staff in pursuing that vision. Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal, and user-support skills. Expert knowledge of instructional design, trends and issues in online learning, and faculty development. Thoroughly knowledgeable of pedagogy and best practices in teaching and learning online. Commitment to outcomes assessment and ability to effectively track and analyze outcomes of instructional design activities and course quality (including student learning outcomes) and to apply assessment results to improve practice. Commitment to excellent customer service and ability to organize staff work processes, training, and expectations to ensure quality outcomes are consistently achieved. Ability to work effectively with multiple constituencies across diverse college units. Comfort working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple competing priorities. Outstanding attention to detail. Experience using a wide variety of current technology tools to create effective, interactive multimedia learning objects/experiences.
