General Description

 

The Database Specialist will maintain, design, develop, test, and deploy several Microsoft Access or SQL databases used for Department of Health, Safety and Environment. The candidate is expected to design, develop and implement small to medium size Microsoft Access databases integrated with other data sources in the Institution. While learning complex data relationships, support the office with running ad-hoc reports and data queries. Also, perform manual data entry and/or import data into various databases. Train staff on various end-user databases and related software products. Prepare operational manuals for end-users and technical documentation for database design.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist with administration of the department's website, which included future changes to design and content using website editors.
  • Provide department desktop support.
  • Assist with analyzing hardware and software requirements.
  • Works closely with departmental staff and system end-users, including external Hopkins customers.
  • Communicate effectively with all team members, staff and customers.
  • Occasionally support administrative assistants with answering the office phone and other related activities.

     

Qualifications

 

 

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Minimum of two years related work experience required. (Equivalent education may be substituted for some experience.)
  • Must be fluent in Access and Excel.
  • Familiar with other Microsoft Office products.
  • Must be proficient in VB, SQL, HTML, JavaScript as well as Windows 7 and Windows 10 operating systems.
  • Must be extremely detail oriented.
  • Candidate must have strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently under general supervision.

     

Preferred Qualifications

 

 

  • BA/BS in computer science or related discipline strongly preferred.
