Director of Information Technology

Greensboro Montessori School seeks a passionate educator who can lead the technology efforts of our students, faculty, and administration. We seek someone who is a teacher at heart and takes pride in guiding and empowering others to use technology as both a tool and a language. Our organization is a 49-year-old, toddler-to-junior-high, AMS- and SAIS-accredited, 260-student, 60-employee independent school.

As an IT “office of one,” it is imperative that this individual is aligned with both our mission and culture, is open and interested in serving and connecting with all of our staff and students, and is invigorated and not exhausted by tackling both high-level strategic IT work and the seemingly menial work of fixing a printer, restarting an AppleTV, or finding a charging cable. As a Montessori school, we believe in meeting students and staff where they are, in both challenging and nurturing them, and in empowering them to “unleash their full potential.” Whatever our role is at the School, we are all here to serve the students and their families. The individual we seek for this role, while passionate about IT, must be equally passionate about connecting with people, and teaching and empowering our staff and students.

We seek an individual who is both well-versed in current educational technology and who is able to quickly research and understand future potentials — someone who is ready for today and able to dream with us about tomorrow. The director of information technology interacts with all constituents of our School, so interpersonal skills are very important: communication, patience, the ability to inspire, and a customer-service oriented approach to training community members (be they a technophile or a technophobe) are all key. For work-ethic, we seek someone with intense organization and follow through, impeccable attention to detail, a desire to take initiative, and the ability to have fun while working hard. We seek someone who also finds professional joy in helping students run a soundboard for a theatrical production, showing students how to write code to make a computer do something they want, maintaining a network infrastructure, or imaging 100 tablet or laptop devices.

The position is full time, available immediately, and comes with benefits and compensation commensurate with experience. In the life of a school, the role is 12-months long and comes with many school holidays and breaks longer than most industries offer, thus creating a potential for a better work-life balance. While experience in school-based IT work is not necessarily required, a passion for working with people and students is required. Qualified candidates must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, with advanced degrees or training preferred.

The director of information technology is responsible for the following tasks:

• Manage all information technology and computer systems, software and hardware, including, but not limited to, iOS and Mac OS, Google Suite, SmartBoards, Constant Contact, Blackbaud, Brightwheel, MacBook Airs and PCs, ChromeBooks, iPads, iPods, and high-end audio-visual equipment.
• Partner with staff on web-based and technology-based solutions to support the School.
• Design, implement, and coordinate technology systems, policies, and procedures.
• Develop a technology vision and plan that includes future direction and purchases.
• Ensure security of data, network access, and backup systems.
• Share resources and training that can support curriculum and educational best practices.
• Support specific curricular areas, such as teaching coding classes and specific student projects and technologies.
• Manage the School’s annual technology budget, purchases, and repair needs.
• Lead technology training and education for staff.
• Manage the service and maintenance of printers, copy machines, and telephone system.
• Partner with and manage outside any needed IT specialty support services.
