Lowell School, a progressive PK–8 school of approximately 350 students in NW Washington, DC, seeks an academic technologist.

 

Overview of Position

Lowell’s academic technologist will implement the technology integration mission and curriculum for faculty and students in preschool-8th grade, ensuring the alignment of the student technology experience across divisions and performing other duties as assigned. This is a 10-month, full-time position reporting to the Middle School and Primary School directors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Curriculum and Instruction

    • Articulate scope and sequence of STEM curriculum to ensure a cohesive, three division program.

    • Facilitate the creation of interdisciplinary and interdivisional projects, programs, and classes. Catalyze the creation of learning experiences that are grounded in research and that:

      • Focus on high impact experiential learning

      • Empower students to pursue their intellectual passions

      • Encourage civic and global engagement

    • Teach classes, individually in assigned division and collaboratively with the other academic technologist(s), including digital citizenship

  • Innovation

    • Oversee Lowell’s innovation spaces

    • Develop and facilitate innovation programming

    • Research, evaluate, and in collaboration with the Director of Technology, select hardware and software for faculty and student use.

  • Pedagogy

    • Support faculty in setting goals and utilizing resources that enable them to develop new pedagogical practices.

    • Provide instructional coaching to teachers in the Primary School and Middle School through content-integrated technology support

    • Serve as a catalyst, coach and collaborator in order to make teachers’ innovative ideas a reality in the classroom

    • Collaborate with the MS academic technologist to ensure pedagogical cohesion with regard to program, assessment, and tool selection

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to:

  • Lift and move electronics and/or computer equipment

  • Move between buildings to support all divisions; this includes moving among different floors in each building

  • Climb on step stool or ladder to provide technical support or service Maker equipment

Work Environment

The noise level in the indoor work environment is usually moderate; temperatures fluctuate throughout the school campus, indoors and out; workflow and schedule must accommodate the schedules of others.
