DESCRIPTION

GDS is seeking an individual to serve as an Academic Technology Support Specialist at its High School campus in Washington, DC. The Technology Support Specialist’s responsibilities are twofold: providing front-line technology support, and growing a culture of peer-to-peer education (teaching teachers) as it relates to educational technologies.

 

The Technology Support Specialist will provide support and training for faculty, staff and students (ensuring purposeful and creative operation of laptop computers, printers, and classroom audio/video equipment), using a CRM database (Zendesk) for tracking support issues, assisting with the management, configuration and upkeep of the data network and VOIP phone system, and providing support and assistance with configuration and deployment of new technology (imaging computers, provisioning phones, configuring and deploying wireless access points, etc.).

 

The Tech Specialist will also serve as an active partner and coach for teachers and staff so as to enable them to understand and use technologies meaningfully, powerfully and creatively in their classrooms and beyond. From extolling the virtues of GSuite (formerly Google Apps for Education) to running clinics on 3D printing in class, the Academic Technology Support Specialist will work with teachers from all departments to help create dynamic learning opportunities for GDS student.

 

The ideal candidate will have expertise and/or experience with several "desktop" technologies  (including Mac OS X and iOS software, Apple hardware, Windows 7/8/10, Chrome OS, Active Directory, Zendesk, GSuite for Education, Blackbaud/WhippleHill, Adobe Creative Cloud, Cisco VOIP, HP & Cisco networking protocols) as well as “academic” technologies (including GSuite, online learning management systems, 3D printing, CAD, data visualization, graphic design, & multimedia production). Likewise, the candidate should possess a fundamental understanding of computer hardware (be able to perform maintenance on laptop and desktop computers), be a true "people person” with excellent "bedside manner" when providing tech support, possess strong written and verbal communication skills to supplement their in-person support, and is comfortable interacting with a diverse and devoted community of staff and students. 

 

A proactive, organized, energetic, and engaging personality would flourish in this position. This position will also require moderate to significant foot travel (our campus is 90,000+ square feet) and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide timely and effective technology support and training for all faculty and staff
  • Work as a partner and coach for faculty to support the purposeful integration of technology into their teaching practice to serve the learning process
  • Produce and distribute documentation to supplement in-person support and training
  • Assist the Operational Technology Lead with the configuration, maintenance, and management of technology including: desktop/laptop/tablet computers, audio/video equipment, cloud services, local servers, printers, copiers, networking systems and equipment, backup systems, etc.
  • Lead and assist in audio/video training and troubleshooting
  • Assist with software training
  • Maintain all hardware & software in an ongoing inventory system

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience: 

A minimum of a bachelor's degree and at least three years experience working in technology support, teaching and/or academic technology integration preferably in an educational and/or non-profit setting is required.
