Napa Valley College is seeking an Applications Support Analyst in Institutional Technology.  Institutional Technology (IT) is committed to delivering high quality technical leadership, resources, and services to students, faculty, and staff in support of the campus mission.  IT offers, coordinates, and manages desktop computing; instructional technologies; enterprise systems; servers; wired and wireless data networks including Internet; infrastructure; and communication and collaboration systems such as electronic mail, voicemail, telephone service, video, and web.
 
The incumbent in this position will: provide technical, procedural, and process support for assigned functional areas (i.e. finance, human resources, student, financial aid) for application and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) programming; provide user training and support; design, develop, implement, and maintain complex and technical portions of application programming; and function as a project leader for major software developments.  The position reports to the Vice President, Administrative Services.
 
This is a full-time, 12-months-per-year, classified position.  The salary will be appropriate placement on range 28.5 of the current Classified Salary Schedule. The starting salary range is $5,296 to $6,131/month, with future steps up to $7,101/month.  Placement is made based on experience.  The college offers a fringe benefit package including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, employee assistance program, and public employee retirement system membership.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Analyze, Design, and Resolve Systems and Software
Analyze and  resolve technical and operational  problems;  monitor, analyze, design, or redesign both new and existing ERP systems and databases; perform analysis of data conversion to new platforms; write and revise computer programs; participate in review and definition of project areas, with emphasis on general objectives and procedures used to process data; code program logic in an appropriate programming language.
 
Assist with Systems Design and Programming
Assist in all phases of systems design and programming; assist in design/modification of business rules for software; provide systems and programming support to functional areas.
 
Assist with Installations
Assist in the installation, testing, and modification of systems, procedures, and programs; make revisions to eliminate errors and excess machine time.  Design and install interfaces using various software tools.  Perform data conversions.
 
Provide Technical Support to Users
Meet and confer with users and technical staff to evaluate application effectiveness; troubleshoot program errors or abnormalities and advise staff; assist in the training of staff in the use of various data processing systems; assist staff with process mapping and workflow improvements; interface with vendors, as needed.
 
State Reporting
Coordinate submission of college information to the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office in the format required for California State Management Information System (MIS) reporting, using data collected and stored in various college systems, including Colleague.
 
Prepare Documentation
Produce and maintain documentation pertaining to computer program designs, objectives, and operation requirements; develop installation documentation standards.
 
General Duties
Design forms; perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum Qualifications
 
Knowledge of:
 
  • Principles of systems and procedure analysis, including ERP systems; methods of production scheduling; capabilities and usage of various computer systems, including hardware and software;
  • Principles and techniques of business process analysis and design;
  • Principles of design of on-line systems;
  • High-level computer languages, state-of-the-art software, and data engineering; principles of program design, coding, testing, and implementation;
  • Database design, functions, structure, and programming;
  • Principles of training/supporting technology users.

Ability to: 

  • Plan, prioritize, and schedule workload;
  • Design and implement on-line and batch computer systems using vendor and industry standard tools;
  • Design, develop, implement, and test computer programs;
  • Analyze complex user problems, evaluate alternatives, and devise logical, efficient, cost-effective, and user-friendly solutions;
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts to a variety of users;
  • Assign work to and train programmers and student workers;
  • Understand multiple database structures.
