Job Description Summary:

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is seeking an Assistant Director, Development IT Project Management. DAR is responsible for leading the university’s alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GWUs mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.

The Assistant Director, Development IT Project Management manages a team of software developers in support of the division’s data management, reporting, and application management needs. This position will be responsible for the complete project management lifecycle of technology-based projects within the division. This includes project identification and specification development in partnership with clients; analysis and design; project plan development and management; resource allocation; and documentation. The Assistant Director will also assist the director and other leaders in determining, scoping and tracking project priorities and delivery cycles. This position will also be directly responsible for the management of two full-time programmer/analysts, including work/project assignments, performance assessments and professional development.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with executives, managers, and subject matter experts to determine data, reporting, application development, and business process needs. Analyze business needs and document data collection and reporting requirements to support the development process.

  • Provide daily oversight, goal setting, performance management, and professional development assistance for two FTEs.

  • Provide project management through the creation and management of project plans to support technology development.

  • Create documentation to support standardized definitions and reporting strategies for division metrics and reporting strategies.

  • Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:  
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, business analytics, or relevant work experience plus 6 years of experience in university or non-profit fundraising or software development firm.

  • Two years’ experience in business analysis from identification of project scope, objectives, and user requirements through complex analysis of business and user needs, documentation of requirements, and translation into detailed technical specifications.

  • Two years’ experience in data management, and report development within a highly-segmented environment.

  • Two years’ experience in project management, preferably in agile/lean environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with executives, managers, subject matter experts, and technical staff.

  • Ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources to decompose high level concepts into details; distinguish user requests from underlying needs; and translate technical requirements to a general audience – and general requests to the technical staff.

  • Proven track record with managing project teams with experience in resource allocation, time forecasting, and project management.

  • Experience working with Ellucian’s Advance Enterprise System strongly preferred.

  • Experience in data integration, ETL procedures, and API development are strongly preferred.

  • Experience in Crystal Reports, Tableau dashboards, and PL/SQL development are strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with code repository tools such as Github and DataOps practices are preferred.
