Requirements

Essential Responsibilities

  • Analyzes needs, forecasts requirements, and plans future direction of the school’s technology infrastructure through short-term and long-term technology plans at the direction of the Head of School and Administrative Committee. 
  • Collaborates with the Canterbury Leadership Team and external partners to present and implement technology solutions that promote deeper learning for Canterbury students and faculty. 
  • Prepares and recommends the operations and capital budgets to the Assistant Head of School for Finance and HR, working closely with the Business Office to ensure all IT expenditures are within fiscal guidelines and expectations.
  • Manage all aspects of the school’s information systems (Cougar Campus) including but not limited to general usage, training, development and troubleshooting across all departments and divisions as well as all members of the Canterbury community. 
  • Oversee the maintenance of the school’s internal hardware and software infrastructure. 
  • Manage external cloud-based services, including SSO (single sign on) functionality across many of the school’s technology platforms within Cougar Campus.
  • Ensure the sanctity, accessibility, security, and structural integrity of all the school’s data through procedures and policies that function to control access, backups, and compatibility. 
  • Procure new hardware and software to support the school’s technological initiatives. 
  • Manage Google back-office infrastructure (GAFE).
  • Monitor and maintain all aspects of the network including but not limited to security, availability, access protocols, latency, bandwidth usage, and content filtering. 
  • Provide on-going technology advice, support, solutions, and training to all members of the Canterbury community.
  • Assist in supporting Blackbaud reporting requirements for various initiatives and offices.

  • Develop and manage vendor relationships to successfully help in supporting the school’s technology mission.
  • Make recommendations on team structure for technology liaisons/coordinators to support each division within the school.

Qualifications and Personal Attributes

  • A master's degree (preferred) or bachelor's degree in computer science or technology
  • Experience in computer information systems, systems administration, systems engineering or equivalent work experience  
  • Ability to manage and lead a diverse, lean technology team through the unique challenges presented by a school environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work well with all levels within an organization, especially within the culture of an educational institution 
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills and drive to meet organizational and department objectives 
  • Knowledge of classroom technology, including interactive whiteboards, interactive projectors, clickers, document cameras, sound systems, cameras, etc. a strong plus
  • Experience and interest in teaching and working with students and faculty colleagues
  • Knowledge of 21st century learning principles and teaching techniques that use technology
  • Basic understanding of most technological protocols, command line interface, scripting, and programming languages
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting all types of technology in a networked environment
  • Demonstrated experience developing a large budget, procuring equipment in bulk, and negotiating with vendors
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Skills, talents, and flexibility for contributing to the independent school community in additional capacities
