General Description / Primary Purpose

The University Library seeks a motivated, creative, and user-focused Assistant Program Director of Technical Services and Head of Library Systems to join our faculty. The incumbent reports to the Director of Technical Services and Library Systems and helps provide leadership and vision for the enhancement, extension, and integration of technology and tools in support of teaching, research and services needs of the library and university community. This position assumes all responsibilities in the absence of the Director. In addition to providing direct support to the Director, the Assistant Program Director of Technical Services and Head of Library Systems directly supervises the Systems and Digital Technologies Librarian and assists in the overall leadership and direction of Technical Services and Library Systems; helps identify and coordinate library computing needs in support of library and university users and helps to set the direction of the library’s technology environment; manages the entire life cycle of projects from requirements gathering to deployment; manages, leads, and collaborates on projects focused on gathering, analyzing, and putting into use high-quality, actionable data to determine the value of library services; serves as a member of the library’s Leadership Team and contributes to the strategic and annual planning for the Technical Services and Systems Department. This position ensures successful collaboration with external vendors and the university’s Information Technology Services to provide services that are well-integrated and maintained.

Approved Hiring Salary Range at the rank of Associate Librarian is $80,750 to negotiable.

Essential Duties

 

Job Function

• Assists the Director of Technical Services and Library Systems with the leadership and direction of Technical Services and Library Systems.
• Serves as Acting Director of Technical Services and Library Systems in the absence of the Director.
• Collaborates with other library departments in leading and providing technical expertise in the selection, development, implementation and education of library digital and innovative technology initiatives, in support of instruction, research, access, digitization, collection management, discovery and Special Collections.
• Helps provide strategic directions, goals and priorities for the department, implementing efficient and effective operations and assessing service quality.
• Analyzes procedures and workflow within and among the Technical Services and Library Systems units to make library resources more accessible.
• Develops project proposals and leads the development and implementation of projects that advance the Thomas G. Carpenter Library’s mission and support library technology initiatives 
• Leads library assessment efforts for the department, in support of institutional and library priorities. Explores new technologies to capture, analyze, and visualize assessment data.
• Designs assessment tools and approaches to evaluate the impact of systems, digital, electronic and physical collections, and to inform decision-making.
• Serves as a liaison between the Library and the university’s Information Technology Services.
• Serves as library liaison for assigned academic department(s).
• Contributes to overall collection development through participation in the evaluation and development of the collection and in the review and selection of research databases and other library resources as appropriate.

• Participates in library-wide activities and/or special projects as appropriate in consultation with supervisor.
• Performs other duties as directed to accomplish the goals of the Thomas G. Carpenter Library and UNF.

Required Qualifications  
Faculty Position Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in academic library environment.
• Minimum of 3 years administrative experience in increasingly responsible positions.
• Strong technical skills and understanding of emerging technologies.
• Demonstrable familiarity with software and data formats commonly used in academic libraries. 
• Evidence of strong supervisory skills, team building, and ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies in the university community.
• Demonstrable ability planning projects, setting priorities to ensure steady departmental operations.

Departmental Requirements

Preference will be given to those who meet the required qualifications and also posses the following:
• Excellence in oral and written communication skills, analytical problem solving skills and initiative.
• Demonstrated knowledge of assessment methodologies and experience working with library specific assessment tools such as Tableau and LibInsights.
• Experience in academic libraries.
• Knowledge of and experience in supporting library specific technologies, e.g. ILLiad, EZProxy, ArchiveSpace, Digital Commons, EBSCO’s Discovery Service (EDS) and Springshare products.
• Experience in the design, development and management of web interfaces.
• Knowledge of one or more scripting and/or programming languages, XSLT, HTML, XHTML, CSS and ADA guidelines.
