Job Description:

  • Lead the University planning effort for campus technology strategies with delegation from and in support of the Vice President for Business and Finance (VPBF) and coordination with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). 
  • Assist and coordinate with the Provost and other academic leaders to ensure inclusion and integration of academic technology needs and plans within the overall institutional strategic technology plan.  
  • Assist and coordinate with other area Vice Presidents the coordination and support of technology resources and plans within their respective areas.
  • Coordinate institutional planning for long- and short-term technology and information resource needs for academic and administrative areas, including, but not limited to, computer hardware and software acquisition, application development, telecommunications hardware and software acquisition, technical and professional staff support, and related issues involving the allocation and commitment of institutional financial resources.  This includes an overall campus-wide IT Governance structure, the annual preparation, through the VPBF, of a five-year technology budget plan, and strategies to develop a culture of continual improvement, participation, collaboration, and planning through the use of IT to meet institutional goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate with unit managers the development and maintenance of institutional data governance, data standards, application databases, including design, control, access, transmission, and security of University information, and related systems. 
  • Provide for the preventive maintenance and repair of all computer, network, and telecommunication hardware and software systems and for alternative (back-up) services to all priority users in the event of interruption or breakdown of primary systems.
  • Develop and recommend policies regarding the allocation of resources, hierarchy of priorities, and implementation of strategies in response to emergency conditions surrounding critical institutional technology service needs.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement policies and procedures to ensure the availability, performance, reliability, integrity, and security of all University computer, network and telecommunications resources, including databases, hardware, software, campus network wiring, and related technologies and systems.
  • Assist the VPBF, as directed, in the communication to trustees, faculty, staff, students and other constituencies of the need for, and the nature and condition of, technology systems at the University, external influences and developments, strategic plans, initiatives, and formal recommendations. 
  • Lead in the recruiting, maintaining, training, and support of experienced and capable IT support staff, both centrally aligned in Computer and Information Systems (CIS) as well as technical support staff decentralized in other operating units.

 

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in information systems management or related field.  
  • Familiarity with university information system requirements. 
  • Experience in planning and management of communication and computing systems in higher education.
  • Comprehension of and commitment to the educational and spiritual objectives of the University.
  • Capacity for interpretation and communication of sophisticated and complex information and technology systems to non-technical audiences.  
  • Proven capability to lead and manage others, and to administer a complex technical environment.
  • Sensitivity and responsiveness to internal governance relationships and community priorities and needs.
