Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Dean of Academic Advancement, the Assistive Technology Specialist provides assistive technology (AT) services to students with disabilities so that they may access and benefit from their educational program and help maintain the school network, including student and staff computers. 

 

Tasks involved in fulfilling above duty/responsibility: 

Assesses and makes recommendations regarding the selection, modification and implementation of computer and AT services to allow students to access and benefit from the program at Compass High School enhancing instruction and learning. 
Makes recommendations regarding the purchase, repair and replacement of computers or other AT devices in consultation with the Head of School and technology committees. 
Maintain the school inventory of student laptops and any other AT devices. 
Provides direct and indirect AT services as specified on students’ ILPs or profiles 
Coordinates the delivery of AT services with classroom teachers, and other education staff to ensure students have access to the AT they need to access curriculum. 
Support and consistently provide comprehensive special education services to students using technology or other educational supports as directed by members of the admin team.
 
 
Education / Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in computer, rehabilitation, education or other related fields. A degree in special education or assistive technology is preferred.*
Experience in supporting students with disabilities (classroom experience preferred) 
May be waived for appropriate experience 
 
Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job:

Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently, multitask and problem solve issues independently and under supervision.
Experience in working with students with learning disabilities. Working knowledge of the principals, practices and ethical standards of AT; relevant state and federal laws, rules and regulations; and applicable policies and procedures of Compass High School. 
A full and robust understanding of the Mac OS and iOS operating systems and the assistive technology built into these operating systems, as well as third party applications that assist and support learning accommodations and modifications for students. 
An understanding of the MS office and Google suite. 
Ability to deal effectively and appropriately with students, parents and other educational professionals regarding student concerns and problems including the direct support of the student toward learning outcomes. 

Ability to consult with school personnel in developing and implementing effective policies and student support systems in the school.
