DESCRIPTION

The Pennsylvania State University Libraries invite applications and nominations of an outstanding individual for the faculty leadership position of Associate Dean for Technology and Digital Strategies. Reporting directly the Dean, University Libraries and Scholarly Communications, the Associate Dean for Technology and Digital Strategies provides leadership and vision for user-focused services and resources that support access and preservation of information. The successful candidate will be a leader in the profession and motivated to improve information access while considering the ethical responsibilities embodied in library digital strategies and products. The Associate Dean for Technology and Digital Strategies provides leadership and advocacy for emerging information technology, digital initiatives, conservation and preservation, and repository and publishing services. The AD takes an active role in library development activities and works directly with library development and donors; provide leadership in strategic planning and implementation within University Libraries and associated reporting and coordination at the university-level; coordinates with Office of Information Security and University IT; and participates in space planning and design. The AD oversees professional development, promotion and tenure process for librarians in division. The AD also collaborates with the administrative team to provide vision and direction for the mission of the Libraries. The current portfolio of responsibility includes: Cataloging and Metadata Services, including cataloging services across all formats for all university Libraries at PSU (24 Commonwealth Campuses); Research Informatics and Publishing, including digital humanities, data curation, maps and GIS, and repository and scholarly publishing services; Media Technology Support Services, including audio/visual support in general purpose classrooms at University Park, video capture and streaming, and equipment checkout; Library Strategic Technologies, including User experience, content strategy, and user services; discovery, access, and accessibility strategies; IT infrastructure and platforms management and support; software and web applications development; Libraries’ website management and services; and service desk and workstation management; Preservation, Conservation and Digitization, including digital reformatting and digital library production, digital and physical preservation, and the Conservation Centre. The University Libraries actively partners with interdisciplinary research centers at Penn State, including the Center for Immersive Experiences and the Center for Black Digital Research. The Associate Dean for Technology and Digital Strategies will be responsible for coordination with associate deans and senior directors in other university colleges and units. A Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent); substantial relevant experience at an academic, special, or research library/related institution; a national reputation for distinguished scholarship and professional accomplishment; strong record of service in an appropriate professional or disciplinary association; excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; and a desire to work in a collaborative, student-centered environment is required.
