Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of Assistant Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO), Information, The Associate Director of Infrastructure Services role is to plan, organize, and manage systems, network staff and overall Systems & Network operations to ensure the stable operation of the Campus IT infrastructure. This includes developing, maintaining, supporting Servers and network infrastructure, Internet Security, Backups and PC's. The Associate Director of Infrastructure Services will also schedule and direct activities to resolve hardware, network and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion. Assist IT team in selecting, problem solving and implementing new technologies.

Under the supervision of Assistant Vice President and Chief Information Officer this position will be responsible for the following:

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and set priorities for the design, maintenance, development, and evaluation of IT infrastructure systems, including Servers, LANs, WAN, Internet, intranet, security, wireless and implementations.

  • Design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements.

  • Conduct feasibility studies for various upgrade projects, improvements, and other conversions.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for infrastructure administration and project management.

  • Participate in the development of IT strategies in collaboration with the IT team.

  • Prepare RFPs, bid proposals, contracts, scope of work reports, and other documentation for infrastructure projects and associated efforts.

  • Test Systems and network performance and provide performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining systems and network infrastructure.

  • Direct and administrate a contingent of network analysts and technicians, and where necessary, conduct performance reviews and corrective action.

  • Negotiate with vendors, and contractors to secure infrastructure-specific products and services.

  • Manage operational costs; conduct near- and long-term financial forecasts for expanded functionality & infrastructure requirements and upgrades.

  • Communicate and collaborate with Facilities and Campus Police to provide IT infrastructure services and support.

  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the IT team, IT leaders and supervisor regarding pertinent infrastructure activities and end-users requirements.

  • Assist with the planning and deployment of infrastructure security measures.

  • Establish service level agreements with business units.

  • Practice IT asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation.

  • Respond to infrastructure emergencies outside of normal working hours as needed and provide support under the College emergency management plan and business continuity planning and recovery.

Requirements:

  • A degree in the field of computer science, information sciences, or related field and five (5) or more years of experience managing and delivering infrastructure design and operational excellence required

  • An additional five (5) or more years of directly related experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree.

  • Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation.

  • Three years successful leadership and supervision of an infrastructure team.

  • Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.

  • Strong, hands-on technical knowledge of network, security, windows servers and PC operating systems - Prefer Cisco and Microsoft technology

  • Excellent knowledge of telephony systems, including Cisco VOIP.

  • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards

  • Demonstrated leadership and personnel/project management skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations

  • Excellent network hardware troubleshooting experience.

  • Extensive application support experience with Cisco network management, Firewall and Windows applications.

  • Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.

  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.

  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Supervisory Responsibility:

The Associate Director of Infrastructure Services supervise and oversees network and systems services and staff and provide operational and strategic directions to support Information Technology goals and mission of the college.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS  

Work is generally performed in an office setting with comfortable environmental conditions. Work involves a high activity level and pace and competing time demands. This position is stationary 50% of the time and frequently needs to move about inside the office department, and throughout the campus community to access equipment, technology and in service of others. Required to regularly communicate and interact with students, employees, faculty and the public.  The position operates a computer and other office and technology equipment such as a copy machine, scanner and printer. Must be able to detect and assess network performance and inspect and test systems.
