Associate Director IT

University Information Technology (UIT) seeks an Associate Director of Student Systems to foster and support growth in the use of the university’s student software application frameworks, programming languages, and development tools used by University of Utah faculty, staff, and software developers. The person in this position will: provide application development oversight to both analysts and programmers, coordinate and facilitate one-on-one and group workshop training sessions, and ensure timely response to phone and online support requests; assist in the development and implementation of related policies, standards, and procedures; analyze, design, write, document, test, and implement complex technology solutions in response to customer service requests; compile evaluative data regarding use and support of student systems; and create student systems roadmap, establishing timelines and deliverables for the university. The student systems associate director will be a key member of the student systems governance group. It is expected that the associate director will be able to help contribute to the governance group from both a business and technical perspective and representUITin that governance group.

University Information Technology (UIT), the central IT service provider for campus, reports to the Chief Information Officer and is responsible for many of the University of Utah’s most critical common IT resources including the campus network; the Campus Information Services (CIS) portal; UMail, telephone, and online collaboration services; high performance and research computing; information security; teaching and learning technologies; software licensing; and a host of other systems and applications. Responsibilities

•ProvideUITleadership for the implementation and support of student applications and application frameworks. This includes all phases of planning, budgeting, development, training, piloting, and implementation.

•Assume responsibility as project manager and developer for specificERP-based projects that benefit a department, a college, or the university.

•Facilitate code reviews on behalf of development staff.

•Define objectives by analyzing user requirements; envisioning system features and functions. Design and develop user interfaces to internet/intranet applications. Select appropriate design methodologies and tool sets; complete programming using languages and software products; design and conduct tests.

•Provide training, coaching, and day-to-day direction for permanent and student staff.

•Manage troubleshooting of enterprise applications and frameworks.

• Actively participate with QA/Test to implementAFTenvironment across the student systems.

• Participate in stand-up Agile meetings and sprints. Work with engineering team to prioritize and development backlog.

• Work with governance andUITto lay out strategic student roadmap working towards a unified student experience across student systems.

OTHERFUNCTIONS&RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Perform research and schedule personal training or attendance at seminars to keep abreast of student administrative systems and new trends in student systems.

•Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISIONEXERCISED:

Administrative supervision of Student Team Business Analysts. Functional supervision of Systems Analysts.

Facilitate requirement gathering between technical team and business users in the student space.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related computer science area, or equivalency required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

•Demonstrated systems analysis skills, project management, and experience implementing and supporting online systems.

•Preparation of written and online documentation.

•Strong teaching and presentation skills.

•Good organization skills, self-directed learner, and customer-service oriented.

•Ability to work collaboratively in teams and work on simultaneous projects.

•Experience preferred in the following: Using web development tools, includingHTMLandCSS. Using multiple desktop operating environments, such as Windows, Macintosh, andUNIX.
