Position Information
The Associate Director of Systems Engineering and Operations reports to the Deputy CTO of Enterprise Infrastructure and provides leadership for the Systems Engineering, Systems Operations, Application Operations and the Lead Systems Architect. The Associate Director is responsible for the effective operations of all system infrastructure that supports campus IT services including servers, storage, and cloud. Additionally, the Associate Director, in collaboration with the Deputy CTO of Enterprise Infrastructure, develops and recommends systems strategies. The salary is commensurate with experience within the budgeted range of $120,000 to $130,000.

Education

Education Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required

Certifications 

  • IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Certification Preferred

Experience

  • 8 - 13 years of related experience. Required

  • Typically 2 - 5 years of experience managing an information technology organization.Preferred

Special Conditions

  • Must pass a background check. Required

  • Occasional travel for university related business meetings, conferences and/or professional development. Required

Minimum Requirements

  1. Thorough knowledge of technical concepts and basic operating principles of data communications, computer hardware, vendor IT products, and software.

  2. Requires a broad working knowledge of the applications programming development function.

  3. Possesses skills necessary to accomplish department/section objectives and address related problems and issues in an effective manner.

  4. Ability to understand the process involved to adapt, integrate, and modify existing programs or vendor-supplied products for use within the technical environment.

  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical topics to individuals and groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication.

  6. Experience of analyzing buy vs. build procurement for products for effective and efficient technology use.

  7. Thorough knowledge of subject area sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment and direction.

  8. Requires the ability to gather, organize, and analyze data in the completion of assignments.

  9. Uses and applies applications Information Technology theories and concepts to manage and provide solutions.

  10. Experienced in leading change management activities and managing their impact across the unit or department.

  11. Experience in the management of ongoing technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion, to include the identification and integration of suitable emerging technologies.

  12. Strong knowledge and understanding of service delivery principles.

  13. Understanding of automation, infrastructure as code and devops.

  14. Understanding of managing systems operations in a cloud environment.

  15. Demonstrated capability of IT project management.

  16. Familiarity with Windows and Linux systems administration practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff.

  2. Current knowledge of the University of California, Riverside campus community.

  3. Current knowledge of the Information Technology Solutions organizational environment.
