Overview

The Technology and Learning Spaces department provides technology, scheduling and classroom management services to Rutgers University-Newark. The department works closely with the other system-wide and RU-N based units to improve the processes and experiences of the students, faculty, and staff.

Posting Summary

Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Associate Director of Technology & Learning Spaces for the Scheduling Office, Which reports to the Assistant Provost Technology and Learning.
The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing all campus-wide IT initiatives and programs. Technology and Learning Spaces provides support for more than 20,000 students, faculty and staff. Furthermore, the department provides technology solutions, project management, strategic planning business relationship management for the Chancellor’s Office and the six schools on the campus. The duties of the Associate Director includes but not limited to the following;

  • Serves in a leadership and advisory capacity for the innovative and effective use of technology and will work with internal and external stakeholders as a thought leader to align technology solutions with business strategies. 
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships with business owners, project sponsors, other project managers and clients. 

  • Works with cross-functional teams to define/refine the project scope; to create and sustain the campus IT project portfolio.  

  • Serves as a strategic consultant with schools and departments for systems support, solution discovery, service management, risk management, and relationship management.  

  • Represents Rutgers University – Newark in meetings with the university system, Big 10 partners and other outside entities as appropriate.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the willingness to travel periodically are required.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Education and Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or business administration or six years’ relevant experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience managing full lifecycle projects within established deadlines and budgets; operational agility.

  • Strong organizational and oral and written communication skill. 

  • Requires strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. 

  • Must be able to prioritize and work on multiple projects/duties simultaneously.

  • Manage and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams; troubleshoot and problem-solve; identify the need for changes in practices, processes, structures, systems, techniques, and tools; and use organizational systems that result in the identification and timely completion of multiple critical activities.  

  • Must be able to meet tight deadlines, have attention to detail, and be able to independently problem solve and make timely decisions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or business administration. Project management certification or successful completion of a recognized project management curriculum desired.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • The position will be required to travel to all RU campuses regularly and other RU locations less frequently. Occasional out of state travel will also be required. A valid driver’s license is required.
