Job Summary: Associate Vice President for Technology Development and Director of the Technology Development Center (TDC) will report directly to the Vice President for Research and President of the OSU Research Foundation. The individual appointed will direct the TDC in identifying and evaluating intellectual property (IP) generated at OSU for possible patenting, marketing, licensing or otherwise transferring to the marketplace for the benefit of OSU, the State of Oklahoma, and their partners. These activities will include overseeing the marketing of technology development to the OSU inventor community; evaluating (in partnership with the faculty and others) and developing markets for OSU  IP of all types; advising faculty and university leaders in maximizing impact through invention disclosures, IP protection, and licensing/commercialization of technologies; and assisting the Vice President for Research and President of the OSU Research Foundation in building strong partnerships with the corporate community in support of commercialization and economic development. The person appointed will manage the TDC, including the preparation of budget reports and oversight of TDC staff. He/She will also liaise closely with university legal counsel and outside patent counsel.

Work schedule may extend beyond regular office hours of 8 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday, as needed to carry out assigned duties.

Due to communication expectations of the position, the selected individual will be required to maintain cellular or other electronic communication device. The position salary will include an amount provided for the use of a personal cellular device.

Education & Experience
Position Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree

Extensive experience and demonstrated expertise in intellectual property management and the assessment, development, transfer, licensing, and marketing of technology. It is preferred that this experience will have been demonstrated either in a university environment or in a corporate environment in interaction with university technology development. Experience managing employees is also required.

The individual selected will have demonstrated leadership skills, proven communication abilities, and a demonstrated passion for operating a technology development enterprise in a service-oriented, deal-flow-optimizing manner. The person's driving goal should be to aid faculty, students, and administrators in seeking market opportunities for university-derived IP. The individual must show a history and ability of interacting effectively with persons within the university setting (faculty, deans, university administration, and legal counsel) as well as key constituencies outside the university (corporate leaders, federal and state agency contacts, etc.). The selected person will have a proven proficiency in developing and managing policies and budgets.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ideally, the selected individual will have successful experience as the Director or Associate/Assistant Director (or equivalent) of a technology transfer operation that operates in a service-oriented, deal-flow-optimizing manner. Valued experiences would include (a) working at a private-sector firm that evaluated or interacted with university-generated IP; and/or (b) working in a leadership role within a university-based technology transfer that embodies the values described above.
