Primary Responsibilities of the Associate Vice Provost – Academic Technology Systems:

  • The Associate Vice Provost (AVP) leads a highly effective, innovative, and responsive team of tech-savvy staffers in the Office of Academic Technology Systems (ATS) and provides strategic representation of Academic Affairs technology needs to the University’s Division of Information Technology Services (ITS). • The AVP will promote a high performing, diverse, and productive culture within ATS that attracts, develops, and retains top talent. ATS is responsible for strengthening and supporting the University’s learning, discovery, and engagement activities by integrating advanced technologies, providing outstanding client service, and maintaining the highest level of operational integrity to enhance teaching, learning, and research.

ATS is charged with the following primary tasks and responsibilities. Other duties will be assigned as required.

  • Technical direction – The AVP and ATS represent Academic Affairs through active engagement with the Internet Oversight Committee, Web Accessibility Coordinators, and the Enterprise Application governance groups. The AVP also provides leadership for the Banner HR user’s group and manages prioritization of Academic Affairs technology requests to ITS.
  • Enterprise systems administration and support – The University has embarked upon planning for implementation of Banner XE/release 9.0, which will significantly impact the work of the AVP. To date, the AVP and ATS have played major roles in regard to Banner Student and Banner HR, including Electronic Personnel Actions Forms (EPAFs). ATS provides support for WebFOCUS (within Academic Affairs), Banner Student security maintenance, WebFOCUS domain administration and security, document imaging administration (currently NolijWeb), and other auxiliary systems, such as Automic job scheduling, AdAstra Schedule, and Perceptive Data Transfer. ATS provides coordination of testing and quality assurance related to system upgrades and supports DegreeWorks and Banner Workflow projects, especially for programs related to the Banner Student module and the transition to Banner XE.
  • University project support – The AVP serves as the Academic Affairs liaison on University sponsored projects impacting all divisions. Examples include Identity management, Banner upgrades, and PII security.
  • Training support – ATS staff engage in training for Banner Student, Banner general navigation, WebFOCUS analytical, NolijWeb, AdAstra, and web development, among other training assignments.
  • Reporting – ATS provides WebFOCUS report development and assistance, ad-hoc reporting, continued support and development of the ODS, data mining for initiatives including retention efforts, and support for other WebFOCUS reporters in Academic Affairs and across the University.
  • Support of Faculty & Academic Units – ATS manages and supports the technical aspects of an LMS-based (Canvas) Promotion and Tenure review process for faculty, as well as external reviews managed in Box storage. The AVP works closely with and serves on the Academic Technology Coordination Committee (ATCC), the body comprised of faculty and associate deans that seeks to address the perceived tech challenges and opportunities of faculty and the academic units.
