Job Purpose: The chief information officer will oversee the Office of Information Technology, whose services and resources range from operating and maintaining Georgia Tech's leading-edge wired and wireless networks, which provide Internet and research network connectivity, to protecting the integrity of the Institute’s data and critical administrative systems.
 
The role of the chief information officer at the Georgia Institute of Technology is strategic, pivotal and dynamic. The CIO develops and guides an information technology strategy for a global campus with strong academic, research, administrative, and service missions and activities. He/she will lead the institute in its mission of defining the technological research university of the 21st century.
 
Major responsibilities:
  • Leads, develops and implements an institution-wide strategic plan for technology that aligns with the University’s priorities and supports the evolving needs of the academic, research and business functions for Georgia Institute of Technology.
  • Determines the strategic approach to understanding stakeholder objectives and requirements to ensure the IT function is positioned to meet the demands of a global research institution.
  • Serves as the portfolio manager for university-wide projects and deployments, reviewing and recommending IT proposals from academic, research and administrative units for applications, systems and equipment.
  • Acts as an advisor to senior leadership on IT acquisition and management.
  • Monitors the provision of services, levels of service and service quality.  Ensures that the organization’s business processes are compliant with relevant legislation, and that the organization operates according to the principles embedded in relevant standards.  Sets strategy for monitoring and managing the performance of IT-related systems and services, with respect to their contribution to business performance and benefits to the business.
  • Develops and manages a system-wide information technology budget for capital and operating expenses, and ensures the effective and appropriate expenditure of the University’s IT funding resources.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Work Experience:
    • 15 or more years of IT leadership experience
    • Over five years management of research computing efforts.
    • Experience implementing technology to enable innovation, implementing stable, secure and highly scalable infrastructure environments including the use of cloud services.
    • Experience in a customer-centric service environment and have a strong customer service commitment;
    • Financial planning and cost management experience

  • Skills: Candidates will have demonstrated success managing and leading change in a complex, collaborative organization, including oversight of strategic planning, consensus-building, organizational leadership and technical performance.
