Job Description

Saint Anselm College, a Catholic, liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition, seeks a broadly qualified, dynamic, and service‐oriented Chief Information Officer (“CIO”) to lead all areas of Information Technology (IT).

 

Reporting to the Vice President for Finance, the CIO oversees the administration of a complex, multi-platform computing, telecommunications, networking and IT system used by students, faculty and staff, and assists Academic Affairs in developing strategies for the use of technology in on-ground pedagogy and online learning modalities to meet future teaching/learning needs. The CIO supports current and future campus needs for emerging technologies and advises senior leadership in the design and delivery of both department level and enterprise-wide administrative systems to enable efficient, effective and secure processing of management information. Decisions about information systems should focus on user interface and ensuring that the College is a data driven institution. The CIO oversees four direct reports (and leads a talented and engaged professional team of 20) in the following areas: Network Systems and Services, Customer Service and Support, Information Systems Support, and Instructional Technology and Design.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop and execute an IT strategy that advances Saint Anselm College’s mission;
  • Serves as a key resource to senior leadership and leads in all matters of IT planning, implementation, and resource allocation;
  • Balance short and long-term priorities and identify cost effective solutions;
  • Lead, inspire, manage, and develop the IT team that is creative, responsive, innovative, collaborative, and efficient;
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the IT department;
  • Maintain the confidentiality of personal and organizational data;
  • Monitor and communicate developments in technology trends, best practices in higher education, and the increasingly complex regulatory environment.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES AND ABILITIES 

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Senior-level leadership experience in information technology;
  • Strategic planning, project planning, budget management, contract negotiations and managing vendor relations experience;
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technically complex information;
  • Demonstrated effective skills in staff development and retention, project management, process management, and change-management.
  • Experience in assessment, conversion and implementation of IT systems, ranging from specific best of breed, stand-alone systems to college wide ERP systems. The college uses Jenzabar CX for its ERP system and has integrated or interfaced with other products such as PowerFAIDS, Raiser’s Edge, CBORD and Slate.  
  • A deep knowledge and experience across broad range of information technology platforms;
  • A strong presence and the ability to serve as an advisor to College leadership;
  • Knowledge of higher education, including an understanding of educational operations, learning technologies, and emerging trends in technologies that support an academic mission;
  • Broad knowledge of legal issues and risks relating to cyber security, privacy, data stewardship and intellectual property.

 

Required Skills
  • Master's degree in a related field is preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years in information technology, including significant experience in a leadership role
  • Extensive fiscal/budgetary experience
  • Significant experience developing technology, information security and data related policy, ideally in a higher-education context or in another equally decentralized, complex environment.
