Join one of the nation’s most comprehensive academic medical centers, University of Chicago Medicine, in the role of Chief Technology Officer ({(}>CTO). This opportunity transcends past the traditional Information Technology model, and focuses on driving the overall IT strategy in one of the nation’s premier medical institutions, and supporting a team that is dedicated to enhancing lives and being on the forefront of all we do.

 In this role, the CTO will partner with the CBIS leadership team to lead the information technology direction for the enterprise. The CTO has overall responsibility for managing technology infrastructure planning and deployment, providing technology vision, enabling innovation and understanding the Information Technology trends that can create business value.

 He/she also:

  • Develops and deploys services including but not limited to service desk, field services, and desktop engineering.
  • Influences technical and architectural aspects of enterprise-wide business decisions, and proposes the basic IT philosophies and directions related to planning for and acquiring advanced information technology.
  • Is responsible for assessing organizational telecommunication and architectural technical needs and proposing appropriate technologies and services to enable the enterprise to meet strategic and tactical objectives.

 
Ultimately, the CTO is accountable for all IT Infrastructure performance, operation, and strategy to meet business and innovation goals of the enterprise.

 

Job Scope/Complexity:

Responsible for a multi-million dollar budget including both capital and operating expenses. Budget funding comes from budget allocations and chargebacks. The CTO is responsible for creating and managing an appropriate mix of funding sources while balancing user needs with institutional strategy. Units and costs of chargeback rates must be created and managed with transparency and clarity.

Qualifications

 A Bachelor’s degree coupled with a minimum of 10 years IT experience, including 5 years leading directors, managers and staff, is required. An advanced degree in a technology or business field coupled and proven experience leading large scale, complex projects is desired. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education.

 Applicants must possess proven skills and experience in: writing and verbal communications, presenting to groups, budget management, strategic planning and large scale, complex project management.  Applicants must possess an advanced, conceptual knowledge of technologies within all areas of his/her organization.
