  • Ten years of progressively responsible experience managing and/or directing an information technology operation to include experience leading enterprise service management, infrastructure and operations, and enterprise architecture teams, ensuring effective goal setting, continuous feedback, goal attainment, consistency of management and effective problem resolution.

  • Proven experience managing large-scale initiatives to a successful conclusion using generally accepted project management practices and processes.

  • Stays abreast of activities within higher education technology, through participation with national and state-level conferences, meetings, and reading related materials.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating customer service strategies and systems.

  • Ability to effectively manage personnel along with a demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage successful enterprise technology services.

  • Ability to translate vision and strategy into tactics and to build operations to support them.

  • Must be a strong decision maker, capable of providing creative strategies in response to the IT needs of the entire campus, and influencing major technology decisions and direction of the department and the university.

  • Well-developed customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relations.

Description of Job Duties
  • Provides management and operational oversight of the teams that manage the University’s network, server and core services infrastructures to provide operational and technical efficiencies, stability and reliable performance in the following domains: Strategic Planning and Governance, Core Infrastructure, Security, Technology and Customer Support Collaboration, Communication, Learning Technologies in Higher Education, Enterprise Service Management and Performance Analytics.

  • Directs and manages the Infrastructure, IT Service Management, Support Services and Enterprise Architecture departments/areas within OIT as well as the University’s computer labs, technology support and overall supervision and management of the departments’ 24/7 staff operations at all UTSA locations.

  • Participates as a member of the senior management team in governance processes of the organization’s architecture, telecommunications, networks, programming, media and desktops.

  • Leads strategic technological planning to achieve organizational goals by prioritizing technology initiatives and coordinating the evaluation, deployment and management of current and future technologies. Serves as a liaison for the organization’s technology vision through regular written and in-person communications with the executives, department heads and end users.

  • Collaborates with the appropriate departments to develop and maintain a technology plan that supports organizational needs.

  • Develops and communicates organization/technology alignment plans to executive teams, staff, faculty, and other stakeholders.

  • Defines requirements for new technology implementation and communicates them to key stakeholders ensuring with future budgets. Assesses and communicates risks associated with technology-related investments and purchases. Develops business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for technology spending and initiatives. Creatively and independently provides resolution to information technology problems in a cost-effective manner.

  • Conducts research to remain up-to-date and knowledgeable in regards to industry trends and emerging technologies in anticipation of new processes and system alterations. Provides University-wide leadership in the recommendation, implementation and development of solutions utilizing emerging technologies. (i.e. Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse solution). Analyzes and improves technology standards across the organization to maintain a technological and competitive edge within the market.

  • Develops and implements disaster recovery and business continuity plans for enterprise infrastructure services.

  • Ensures continuous delivery of technical services through oversight of service level agreements with end users and monitoring of systems, programs and equipment performance based on measurable goals and key performance indicators to ensure desired performance levels.

  • Must structure effective collaborations and consultations with academic, research, administrative and IT leaders from all parts of the university. Develops collaborative relationships with other institutions (both internal and external to the UT system) and represents the university in discussions with these institutions regarding technology policies, best practices and collaborative initiatives.

  • Recommends investments to maintain technology services that meet the needs of its constituents, aligns technology capabilities with the faculty’s adoption of learning technologies and support UTSA’s aspiration to become a premiere research university as well as aligning recommendations with UTSA’s strategic goals.

  • Recommends and assists an annual university wide informational technology governance process that effectively promotes transparent and collaborative decision‐making and aligns divisional priorities with institutional goals.
