Pace Academy, one of the Southeast’s top independent day schools, seeks an energetic, organized and enthusiastic individual to join the Middle School faculty as a Computer Science and Robotics teacher. This teacher will teach five classes and will be involved in the development of future courses offered in the Middle School.

Responsibilities include leading introductory courses in computer and technology at the 6th grade level, including training in Word, Excel and Keynote, programming courses and possibly mobile app creation in the 7th grade, and Robotics courses in the 7th and 8th grade. This teacher would also be expected to run the Middle School Robotics Team and would be responsible for preparing students for and chaperoning them to First Lego League competitions.

Other responsibilities include communications with the Robotics Team parents, aiding middle School teachers with their technological needs, regulating and supervising Computer Lab use, and collaborating with the STEAM program in developing future curriculum.

The ideal candidate will possess a passion for teaching computer science and technology and be able to demonstrate in their work history the ability to motivate and excite youth in learning the fundamentals of computing. The candidate should also have excellent collaboration skills and should work well with colleagues and help them incorporate technology into their curricula when needed. The ability to implement existing curricula and activities and aid in the development of new curricula is required.

Qualifications include:

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; Bachelors

minimum, Masters Preferred

  • Experience in a technology related field

  • Strong familiarity with at least 2 programming languages (HTML/CSS, JavaScript or ROBOTC)

  • Familiarity with Scratch and Tinker preferred.

  • Experience with robotics or a willingness to learn

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for robotics events
