Greens Farms Academy seeks an Upper School Computer Science/Engineering Teacher to begin in August 2020. There is some flexibility in terms of teaching load. We are looking for candidates with an interest and ability to work with students in some, but not necessarily all, or the following fields: computer science, computer programming and coding, app design, electronics, engineering, robotics, prototyping, digital fabrication. More important than any particular skill, the ideal candidate will be able to foster the attitudes students need to engage in self-driven inquiry and bring a desire to collaborate with a team of innovative Upper School faculty members working in computer science, engineering, and design. In addition to Upper School teaching, there may be opportunities to teach STEM-related seminars in our Middle School (grades 5-8) and play an important leadership role in the school’s broader STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) effort, which places significant emphasis on hands-on, student-centered learning, design thinking, and interdisciplinary work. Please consult the school’s website for more information about the STEAM signature program, as well as the Upper School capstone concentration in STEAM.

The ideal candidate will have some experience or demonstrated interest in working with high-school-aged students, and a passion for computer science, technology, robotics, engineering, or related fields. Skills in some or all of the following areas will be particularly helpful: coding, app design, web design, software design, interface design, robotics, CAD, 3D printing, vector drawing, laser cutting, physical building. For all positions, we look for candidates who enjoy working with colleagues in a collaborative environment, who are flexible and creative, who will fully engage in the life of the school, and who are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable community.

While the listing is for an experienced teacher, we are open to teachers earlier in their careers stepping into a teaching fellow role. Teaching fellows teach a reduced courseload and contribute to other aspects of independent school life: leading clubs and activities, chaperoning trips, and possibly coaching. Teaching fellowships are generally two-year positions and offer relatively new teachers opportunities for mentorship and professional growth.

Greens Farms Academy is a PreK-12 co-educational day school of 715 students in the Greens Farms section of Westport, CT. We are a suburban school close to major transportation and a five-minute walk from the Greens Farms Metro North train station. The campus sits on the Long Island Sound, a half hour south of New Haven and an hour north of New York City by car or commuter train. Please visit www.gfacademy.org for more information.

Interested candidates should email a resume, reference list (if available), and letter of interest addressed to Andrew Jones, Head of Upper School, to steamjobs@gfacademy.org.
