This part-time, 3/5ths position supports computer science, academic technology, and STEM efforts for grades 5-12.

 

Grades 7 and 8
 

This position supports teachers of all subject areas in integrating computer science and design thinking into their classroom curricula and collaborates with teachers around the use of the Makerspace. The person in this role will build collaborative relationships with teachers, understand their curricular goals, and support their efforts at increasing the use of technology and resources for innovative, student-centered learning. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting teachers in developing and delivering educationally sound technology projects within their classroom and in the Makerspace

  • Serving as a researcher, supporter, and collaborator to bring teachers’ new curricular STEM-based ideas into fruition

  • Co-designing and co-teaching lessons and classes, as needed, for the successful implementation of new and past STEM and engineering projects

  • Participating in the management of the Makerspace, including the upkeep of supplies, tools, and scheduling

  • Operating and helping others safely operate the Makerspace tools, including the laser cutter, 3D printers, robotics kits, electronics, vinyl cutter, hand tools, power tools, etc

 

Grades 9-12
 

This position is responsible for teaching 2 Upper School minor elective courses in the Computer Science and Engineering Department-- Foundations in Computer Science and smART Tech, a course focused on the creation of hands-on projects that merge computer science programming with the design of physical objects.

 

Grades 5-12
 

The STEM coordinator is responsible for providing support in the coordination and implementation of the School’s 5-12 STEM efforts, including but not limited to designing STEM units and lessons, providing content knowledge in STEM, and sharing best practices. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the coordination, development, and delivery of the STEM program and related professional development opportunities for students and faculty in partnership with Department Heads, Division Directors, the Middle School Academic Technology Coordinator, the Director of Academic Technology, and the Academic Dean

  • Acting as a cross-departmental coordinator for STEM-related projects, activities, or events

  • Organizing, developing, and coordinating STEM events/activities, including all school presentations and assemblies

  • Serving as a resource in identifying appropriate research-based instructional strategies to improve STEM achievement for students in grades 5-12

  • Facilitating student participation in national and local math, science, and engineering opportunities and competitions

  • Serving as liaison to prospective or selected STEM programs and vendors to help determine the best resources and innovations that will optimize the learning experience for students and faculty

  • Attending professional development and training related to STEM programs and methodologies
