Position Overview:

The individual in this full-time position will oversee the data integrity, management, and analysis at the College as directed by the Director of Project Management, Data & Analytics. They will define, transform and structure data for the academic and business departments of the College. As well, they will perform research at the College in support of enterprise based projects in the implementation of the strategic directions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Act as the data analytics expert for the College;
  • Support the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data, the anticipation of problems, and the monitoring of those solutions;
  • Research the best practices in education as they relate to the College and apply those findings to current state, as well as new projects and initiatives;
  • Support the development of research questions and identify the type of research and data required to meet the needs of the College;
  • Support that development of data plans that are guided by the strategic intentions at the College;
  • Partner with external sources, such as universities and business, to develop and implement best practices in data and learning analytics;
  • Work on strategic projects to define supporting data, as well, define how the data will be used to inform project success;
  • Use learning analytics to build tools and models to predict student achievement;
  • Create and distribute user friendly data reports;
  • Respond to all ad hoc information requests;
  • Work with the database technical lead to develop protocols to maintain data accuracy;
  • Provide training and support on how to use the data management and reporting tools;
  • Analyse data flow within the College; support the design and implement processes for improved efficiency and functionality;
  • Continuously build relationships and work collegially with other departments;
  • Represent the IT department in various committees.

Knowledge, Competencies and Experience:

  • Post secondary degree or diploma in computer science, data analytics, information technology or a related field required;
  • Exceptional data extraction management, analysis, and reporting experience at an advanced level, preferably in the field of education;
  • Proven principles, methodology and techniques to develop and analyze data statistics;
  • Experience in productivity software and tools with advanced knowledge in spreadsheets;
  • Current relational database software experience (e.g. MS Access, Education Edge, Raiser’s Edge) would be an asset;
  • Structured query language (SQL) functionality would be an asset, as well as SAS, SSRS, SSIS;
  • Experience in Analytic tools similar to Hadoop, Power BI or Tableau;
  • Government requirements for reporting of student academic results;
  • Data warehousing practices and understandings an asset;
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and problem solving/analytical skills required.
