Position Summary

The Data Systems & App Development Specialist identifies, creates, manages, enhances, designs & develops databases, their structures and processes to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of data architecture at LCS and in the cloud. This role involves providing resources and building practices to support the academic and non-academic data portfolio of the school. This individual will architect, design, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure solutions. This individual will be expected to facilitate successful large-scale data migrations, while working on multiple concurrent initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Develop, test and deploy front-end and back-end database solutions (including, but not limited to MS SQL, MySQL, SQL Server Integration Services, Relational and Non- Relational Databases) both locally and in the cloud. This will involve creating tables, views, indexes, partitions, developing stored procedures, functions, triggers, and more.

Duties include:

  • Develop and maintain custom applications, to support innovation and new initiatives

  • Analyze existing applications, document the current processes and perform impact analysis

  • Documentation of current processes and newly added processes and up-keeping of Data Dictionary

  • Develops an overall understanding and capacity to use our database systems, processes and dependencies

  • Designs queries and reports as requested

  • Prepares users by conducting training, providing information, resolving problems, building awareness of processes

  • Builds capacity among colleagues to access data independently with the goal of creating a sustainable organization or structure

  • Takes responsibility for the management of any incoming data by creating input structures and developing appropriate workflows

  • Working closely with the Director of Information Systems, the candidate will ensure data integrity during any transitions

  • Ensure timely synchronization of data resources

  • Maintains content integrity of the database by verifying entered data by reviewing, correcting, deleting, or re-entering data; combining data from various systems to eliminate duplication of data

  • Aligns with the school’s strategic vision, goals, initiatives, and plans

Skills/Education:

  • A degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field to perform duties as a Database Specialist, Developer and Cloud Architect

  • Experience working with database development both locally and in the cloud

  • Experience with creating libraries and frameworks to design and implement APIs

  • Thorough understanding of relational and non-relational database structures

  • Experienced in creating database structures with MS SQL, MySQL, and SQL Server integration services

  • Interpersonal savvy with the ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion

  • Comfortable and flexible in researching and learning new products, processes, skills and competencies

  • Excellent time management, problem-solving, and communication skills

Technical Requirements

  • Professional experience working with Google Cloud, G-Suite and AWS

  • Professional experience working with databases, preferably in an academic environment

  • Knowledge of Windows Server and Linux environments

  • Comfortable with working on both Mac and Windows operating systems

  • Coding experience with PHP, Node.js, ASP, and/or Python

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 – 4:30
