Friends Seminary seeks a data systems specialist to manage implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of data systems to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our institution-wide applications. This is a “hands-on” position requiring strong technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Friends Seminary is a complex and dynamic institution that relies on numerous integrated database platforms to manage its day to day and long term operations including: academics, admissions, business operations, fundraising, and communications. The smooth integration, usability, and accuracy of shared data between the school’s operating departments is vital. The database specialist will manage back-end database structure and settings for all data platforms, manage user settings & security, provide training and troubleshooting for users, and perform higher order data access (e.g. custom queries and reports).  The data systems specialist will report to the Director of Technology and work closely with other members of the Technology Department to support the technology needs of the school community.

 

Responsibilities
  • Provide top level support for the school’s major database platforms. School systems include:
  • Student Information System and Academic Records
  • Course Management Platform
  • Admissions online applications
  • Fundraising Records
  • Financial Records
  • Medical information
  • Emergency contact system
  • Interface with database software providers to ensure institutional needs are met.
  • Manage customization of database systems to meet school needs.
  • Manage procedures for data backup and work with Director of Technology to ensure data security.
  • Provide user support and technical support for database users.
  • Support interoffice workflow, especially around database integration and data sharing.
  • Manage database user account settings and permissions.
  • Perform advanced data interface tasks such as programmed queries, custom reports, or specialized mailing lists.
  • Assist Director of Technology as needed in supporting other technology infrastructure: networks, devices, AV, etc.
  • Offer suggestions, advancements and improvements to the database technology in order to move the school forward.
Qualifications
  • Experience with technical support and integration of commercial database platforms.
  • Familiarity with SQL query programming.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate.
  • Educational or non-profit institutional experience preferred.
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.
