The Position

Reporting to the Information Technology (IT) Manager, the Database Administrator ensures to accurately and securely develop, coordinate, and maintain computerized databases for all services of the school including :

  • Providing data support in the Student Records Department, Admissions, Advancement and other areas as needed

  • Importing/exporting data from the Student Information System (SIS) into or from other various systems

  • Ensuring data integrity between the SIS and the Alumni database as well as other various databases

  • Providing, if necessary, additional IT helpdesk support

Key Responsibilities

Provides data support (automating tasks whenever possible) and participates in the following areas:

  • Assists with the maintenance of the (SIS) mostly during closing/opening of the school year)

  • Creates and modifies Crystal Reports

  • Processes planned data import into SIS (using CSV, Excel, etc.)

  • Creates/prepares reports for various departments

  • Offers SIS IT support for staff, students and parents

  • Creates queries/scripts, import/export, manipulate/transform and load data from and to various databases including SIS

  • Verifies integrity, consistency and backups of the databases

  • Ensures the availability, functioning and security of databases

  • Participates in developing and updating IT resources

  • Participates in various projects and other related tasks

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate for this position (Information Technology, Computer Science or other equivalent disciplines) preferred

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in administering databases and database servers in a school setting

  • Experienced in creating queries/scripts in SQL and Crystal Reports

  • Experienced in programming languages for the purpose of automating scripts/queries and pre-scheduled generation of reports

  • Advanced Access and Excel skills (e.g. the ability to extract and manipulate data)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Detail-oriented, creative problem-solving skills coupled with good judgment

  • Able to be autonomous and a contributing member of the IT support team

  • Setup and operational experience of services such as: Azure, GCP, Active Directory, Windows 10, SAN storage, Microsoft Server, Hyper-V, Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Linux, MySQL, experience/knowledge of Mac OS X

  • Experience working with MS Active Directory, group policies, network logon scripting and AGLP for the purpose of RBAC

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, ability to narrow down the cause of an issue and determine a solution

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with and work well with all levels within an organization specifically working effectively within the culture and processes used in the school

  • Highly organized and driven to meet organizational and departmental objectives

  • Proven ability to work effectively with all related parties

  • Strong communication skills in English; French is an asset

  • Familiarity with providing IT support in a school environment is an asset
