The Database Administrator will be responsible for managing and maintaining the school's database systems, ensuring data accuracy, security, and availability. The position will work closely with various stakeholders to support the school's administrative and academic functions. 

This position requires a strong understanding of database management principles and logic, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced educational environment.

Essential Functions

  1. Data Management:
    1. Design, develop, and maintain the school's database systems, ensuring optimal performance and data integrity.
    2. Implement and enforce data security measures, including user access controls, backups, and disaster recovery plans.
    3. Monitor database performance, identify, and resolve issues, and optimize system resources.
    4. Regularly update and maintain database documentation, including data dictionaries, schemas, and procedures.
  2. Data Analysis and Reporting:
    1. Collaborate with various departments to understand their data needs and develop custom reports and queries.
    2. Extract, transform, and load data from various sources into the school's database systems.
    3. Perform data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights to support decision-making processes.
    4. Generate accurate and timely reports for administrators, faculty, and staff as required.
  3. System Integration and Support:
    1. Collaborate with key stakeholders to integrate the school's database systems with other software applications and platforms.
    2. Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users, resolving database-related issues promptly.
    3. Conduct regular system audits to identify and resolve data inconsistencies or errors.
    4. Stay updated with the latest database technologies and trends, recommending improvements to enhance system efficiency.
  4. Website Administration
    1. Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Communications to maintain and administer the school’s website, intranet, and parent portal.
      1. The Marketing team is responsible for content creation.
    2. Distribution list management
      1. Imports and exports from various sources, such as Blackbaud, iModules, and safety and security programs.
    3. Support for all aspects of the website and platform, including but not limited to content issues, links, process and data flow, and log in access with escalation to the vendor for additional support if required. 
  5. Training and Documentation:
    1. Develop and deliver training sessions to educate staff on database usage, best practices, and data entry standards.
    2. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database systems, including user manuals and troubleshooting guides.
    3. Assist in the development and implementation of data governance policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of database logic and processes.
  • Familiarity with data integration and ETL processes.
  • Experience in database security, backup, and recovery procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with large datasets.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Prior experience in an educational setting is a plus.
