Database Administrator (DBA)

North Shore Country Day, a progressive, academically rigorous, co-ed, JK-12 day school is seeking a Database Administrator to provide innovative leadership for our school data systems. North Shore is eager to consider applications from Individuals traditionally underrepresented in independent school communities.

The Database Administrator will have expert knowledge of data systems, data analysis, data warehousing, and API programming.  They will oversee all systems and have a holistic view of the school’s data workflows, processes, and capabilities. K-12 school experience or working in an education environment would be an asset.

Reporting to the Director of Technology, the Database Administrator will be responsible for maintaining the School’s many databases (broadly conceived), including the student information and learning management system, and integration of these with other software applications.  This role includes training on appropriate use of systems, establishing data governance policies and best practices, and includes evaluation and implementation of systems and processes for management of data leading to improved innovation, research and insights.

The successful candidate will be a person with a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion, who enjoys working with both young people and adults, and thrives in a hands-on position with responsibilities that range from strategic and long-range planning and implementation of system-wide database solutions to providing one-on-one and group training and support.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Assumes ultimate responsibility for all school-wide IT systems and services;

* Help establish and promote a positive data culture

* Manage the transfer/integration of data between database systems;

* Liaise with school leaders, especially academic leaders in promoting value of data for informed decision making 

* Participate in planning, implementing and evaluating system upgrades;

* Create, implement and maintain data file structures;

* Provide technical support to users as necessary;

* Maintain integrity of data for full life cycle from admissions through

post-graduation;

* Update demographic data in all applicable databases as needed;

* Retrieve/extract information from databases and develop reports as requested by

Users;

* Build dashboards and visualizations of data that promotes teaching and learning and institutional advancement

* Troubleshoot problems with database systems utilizing system utilities, and

interface with vendors to resolve technical issues;

* Research, evaluate and propose appropriate database systems and processes to

School leadership;

* Prepare training materials, and coordinate/conduct training for end users;

* Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Technology/Leadership team

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems with

five years database management experience, preferably in an educational setting. Proven experience with data manipulation, database development, and reporting using common tools such as Excel, Looker Studio, or Crystal Reports. Knowledge of SQL is an asset. School uses the BlackBaud suite as its core application.

* Ability to articulate technical information to users with less technical background;

* Flexibility with the special needs associated with an academic environment and

schedule.

Demonstrated ability to communicate and work well with all levels within an educational organization.
