Job Description:

This position will be a mission-critical member of the University of Central Florida Information Technology (UCF IT) team and will support the UCF IT mission by providing innovative technology solutions and services, and responsive and reliable IT infrastructure and support.

The position will work closely with Infrastructure team members, application developers, and the Service Center to provide database services to UCF IT and its customers.

Reports to the Manager, Enterprise Database, UCF IT.

  • Assists the senior DBA in performing daily operations to maintain enterprise Microsoft SQL Server database servers and clusters.

  • Works with the senior DBA and infrastructure team in coordinating system-wide updates and installing upgrades and patches for databases.

  • Responsible for backup, archive and recovery of databases and perform disaster recovery for business continuity using Commvault.

  • Monitors and maintains database and server uptime and performance metrics.

  • Performs troubleshooting and provides remediation for hardware, software and system problems involving SQL Server databases.

  • Supports developers by creating, altering, and dropping databases as needed via ServiceNow requests.

  • Perform configuration, change management and testing activities as required.

  • Maintain database configuration documentation in Microsoft SharePoint.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 0+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

The candidate will have some familiarity with relational databases; the ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as independently with minimal error and guidance; sense of urgency and commitment to providing the best support possible to both internal and external clients.

The ideal candidate should also have Microsoft SQL Server experience including query profiling, tuning and troubleshooting along with backup and recovery; should also be proficient in PowerShell scripting. SQL Server certification is preferred.
