Under the direction of the College President, the Dean of Information Technology manages the college’s network system, including e-mail and internet services; serves as the liaison to district Information Technology (IT) services for network administration, administrative computer systems, college information systems, telecommunications services, and library automation, involving other staff as appropriate; directs, supervises, and evaluates staff in the college’s IT department; and provides leadership in the development of technology training for college IT staff and computer lab technicians.

 

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Developing qualitative and quantitative measures of productivity, quality control, workload performance standards, system reliability, and availability.
● Working in cooperation with District IT, developing policies, procedures, and standards required to provide flexible and cost-effective support of the information technology systems.
● Coordinating the acquisition and/or procurement, installation, inventory, and maintenance of computer/audio-video and telecommunications hardware and software, for use in instruction, student services, and administration, at both on-campus and off-campus sites.
● Working with other deans and managers when necessary, planning for the coordination, organization, and operation of the college’s computer, media, and online educational program and instructional computing laboratories, ensuring effective service to faculty, staff, and students.
● Developing and maintaining a resource inventory, and developing policies and procedures to provide efficient and effective use of computing resources.
● Working in cooperation with others and within district policies and regulations.
● Coordinating, developing, implementing, and updating the college’s technology plan, which includes policies, procedures, and standards for the procurement and use of computer, telecommunications, and media services. 
● Developing and managing the unit’s budget, pursuing grants, donations, and partnerships as appropriate or necessary to achieve unit objectives and college goals.
● Serving on college and district committees related to technology.
● Providing leadership and IT support for the internet activities of the college, including administrative services, student services, and instruction web sites.
● Providing leadership and IT support for instructional and student services efforts for all student tracking programs, internet activities, and online education.
● Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, when necessary.
● Performing other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:
● Principles of personnel management, communications, and fiscal management in an educational environment.
● All phases of the information system life cycle in a large information system and networked environment, with technical knowledge of the principles of computing hardware, software, telecommunications, networking, and internet technologies.
● Project management, procurement, and contract management.
● Project planning and management experience in a large IT organization.
● Information systems, problem management, and change management.
● Principles and practices of instructional and/or student services in a public educational environment.

Ability to:
● Apply the principles of good customer service in an IT organization.
● Deliver both written word and with oral presentations for purposes of reporting, explaining, and seeking support for the IT function.
● Balance conflicting priorities.

The administrative assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off campus work and/or hours.

 

Work Year: 12 months

Special Requirements: 

1. Have a master’s degree* from an accredited college/university completed by June 14, 2018; OR have a bachelor’s degree with extensive Computer Science or Management Information Systems experience.

2. Have three years formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.

3. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.

Salary: $131,327 annually. LRCCD Salary Schedules
