Full-Time Position Beginning August 2019

Christchurch School is seeking candidates to teach computer science concepts through the medium of design thinking and our maker lab.  Several years ago we redesigned our computer science curriculum around the design thinking model, so that students learn coding and computational thinking through a design and build process that focuses on empathy and problem-solving.  We seek a candidate who would like to continue this “hands-on” approach, who would teach computer science courses and run our fully equipped maker space in partnership with the math department. Use of the space includes both computer science courses as well as student projects for other disciplines. Longer term, the candidate will have an exciting opportunity to work in partnership with the math department to teach quantitative reasoning through a maker process.

Requirements for candidates are somewhat flexible; candidates should have degrees and experience that equip them to teach coding and run a maker space.   Our school is working on a mastery of competencies model for assessment, and a hands-on computer science curriculum is an ideal test bed for this approach, so candidates should be open to this.  Experience with and interest in robotics is necessary.  Finally, candidates should be realistic and excited about the challenges and rewards of teaching and living in a boarding school, as well as working with students who have a wide variety of learning styles and ability levels.

Please submit an electronic resume, statement of teaching philosophy, and a letter of interest directly to Neal K. Keesee, Ph.D., Associate Head of School, at academicjobs@christchurchschool.org.
