Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School is a community Jewish school in Northridge, CA (Los Angeles) for grades TK-8 for approximately 375 students. We provide rich general and Judaic studies and comprehensive enrichment programming for the whole child: academically, spiritually, and physically.

Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School seeks a Communications Specialist to oversee the marketing, multimedia, and web communications platforms, including traditional media such as print collateral and graphics. S/he will be creative, an “out of the box” thinker, and proficient in the creation of communications pieces that use a variety of media to engage the various profiles of the school’s audiences.

Supervision
This position reports to the Director of Advancement.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Marketing
•    Demonstrates competence with a wide array of marketing communications platforms, including print, web, social media, photography, and videography.
•    Provides in-house graphic support for the school’s branding initiatives, including flyers, posters, and invitations.
•    Produces content for digital and print communications compliant with Heschel’s branding and helps to develop new copy and image platforms.
•    Maintains the highest level of quality and accuracy in all content execution and publications.
•    Liases with external and internal vendors including graphic designers, web developers, and printers
•    Supports the school’s communication needs around such events and initiatives as annual giving, open houses, reunions, annual gala, and more
•    Produces visual stories through photo and video documentation of school life
•    Documents school events, which may fall on evenings and weekends

Multimedia
•    Brings to Heschel proficiency in word processing, photo editing, web development technologies, and experience using the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign is a must), and video editing applications such as Final Cut Pro and iMovie
•    Manages electronic messaging to the community using in-house and third party mail solutions
•    Has a working knowledge of digital photography and semi-professional video production.
•    Understands vimeo, flickr, youtube, and similar platforms, and effectively posts school materials to these sites with private access for Heschel community
•    Knowledge of Facebook management to encourage growth and increase engagement
•    Track and analyze data performance of campaigns and tactics, providing reports and recommendations to optimize user engagement and results

Web
•    Supports the ongoing management of Heschel Day School’s website, keeping it current, well-formatted, and attractive, updating the news section, calendar, spotlight, and visual materials, and providing new content via copywriting, photography, and videography
•    Builds social media strategy and platform for Heschel, generating content for social media, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
•    Knowledge of search engine optimization, content management systems
•    Skills in web design
•    Ability to link web with social media platforms to create cohesive digital messaging
•    Has proficiency in shooting, editing, and posting photography and videography to the web
•    Working HTML knowledge a plus.

Knowledge, Expertise and Qualifications
Degree from four year college or university with major preferably in communications, journalism, or multimedia
•    Experience using content management systems
•    Demonstrated writing and editing skills with excellent attention to detail
•    Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize work
•    Full knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and FinalCut Pro or iMovie; HTML a plus
•    Minimum 3 years multimedia experience
•    Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
•    Excellent face-to-face, telephone, and email communication skills
•    Ability to work independently and as part of a team; flexible regarding responsibilities
•    Ability to manage third party resources
•    Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences
