 Director of Administrative Technology

Position Description:

The Elisabeth Morrow School (EMS) is seeking a technology professional to provide leadership for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating our technology infrastructure. The Director of Administrative Technology develops and evaluates EMS’s technology vision and implements a technology and infrastructure plan that meets the school’s current and future needs in a dynamic 21st-century learning environment.

We are seeking someone who enjoys working independently while effectively collaborating across groups.  This is a hands-on position with responsibilities that range from strategic and long-term planning and implementation of system-wide technology solutions to providing one-on-one and group training and support. Experience working in the education field is preferred.

Reports To:  Chief Financial and Operating Officer

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and Policy
    • Works closely with the Administrative Technology team and senior leadership to implement a cohesive technology plan and systems at EMS.
    • Collaborates with divisional academic technology integrators to maintain and enhance academic technology initiatives and processes.
    • Sets policy, regulations, system standards, and operating procedures for administrative technology.
    • Oversees and sets policy governing the faculty, staff, and student laptop program.
    • Collaborates with the CFO/COO and Director of Facilities and Operations to develop the annual technology budget and revises the technology plan as needed.
  • Supervision and Faculty/Staff Support
    • Supervises 2.5 FTE, including the school registrar, and 1.5 technology support personnel.
    • Provides ongoing training for new and existing technical staff.
    • Planning, purchasing, deployment, maintenance, training, and support for computing devices and other technology-related equipment and services for all faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Implementation and ongoing support
    • Manages vendor relationships for software, licensing, and systems renewals, plus outside vendor management, including ISPs, website & web services, copiers, and other technical services.
    • Maintains accurate, up-to-date, and complete documentation of the school network, servers, printers, and backup and restore processes.
    • Oversees the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and ongoing support for the following:
      • Campus-wide systems, including the computer network infrastructure and security; multifunction copier systems; VoIP phone system; security camera and electronic access systems; physical and virtual servers, including MS-Windows Active Directory, Hyper-V, DNS, DHCP, user account management, and resource access; mobile device management system.
      • Data management systems for registrar, business, admissions and enrollment, and advancement.
      • Network devices, including firewalls / VPN, routers, switches, and WiFi access points.
      • Cloud-based systems and applications, including the School Information System, Learning Management System, systems for attendance and dismissal, visitor management and school safety systems, Help Desk and Google Apps for Education.
      • Installation, support, and training for all classroom technologies, such as projectors, Apple TVs, speakers, other A/V systems and peripherals used in classrooms and school events.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of experience managing and troubleshooting network infrastructure.
  • Experience working in and supporting a mixed computing environment, including Apple macOS, iPadOS, Windows, Windows Server, and Linux.
  • Significant experience with Apple, Microsoft, Cisco, Meraki, and Aruba products.
  • Experience with Blackbaud SIS and LMS systems and SchoolPass is a plus.
  • Desire to work in a school environment and, when required, with students.
  • Experience in crafting school technology plans preferred.
  • Experience in vendor relations, including contract negotiations and ongoing service relationships.

This job is a full-time, full-year, exempt position. It requires occasional evening and weekend commitments. Salary and benefits are highly competitive and commensurate with experience.
