Position Purpose: To foster the mission of the school by supporting faculty/staff with the use of the school’s database as well as providing hands-on management for the school’s IT infrastructure and classroom technology integration by maintaining documentation data and reporting protocols and by assisting in the development and implementation of best practices for the management of the school’s database.

The Director of Database and Information Technology is expected to foster the Catholic identity of the school and sustain a culture of Mercy tradition and values in achieving its vision and mission. Essential Functions:

  • Maintain the overall integrity and quality of the school database currently in RenWeb, including data updating, collection and input of student information
  • Coordinate all aspects of student Report Cards and Progress Reports
  • Assist Vice Principal in all phases of student/teacher/class scheduling
  • In conjunction with the Director of Education Technology, facilitate the creation and implementation of a strategic technology plan identifying short-term and long-term goals
  • Configure and set up new equipment; troubleshooting software and hardware problems as well as repairing or replacing broken hardware
  • Assist faculty and staff with technical problems and questions.
  • Organize software and hardware inventory records, setting up user accounts and supporting the school’s wired and wireless networks.
  • Manage a substantial technology budget and purchasing of technology tools and equipment in coordination with the Business Officer and the committee members of the Board of Trustees.
  • Provide ongoing assessment on all aspects of technology related to educational goals
  • Keep current with new and emerging technologies and provides relative information /research

Qualifications

  • Desire to work in a mission-driven environment
  • Solid understanding of the principles of database management
  • Experience in an educational setting preferred
  • Proficiency in use of Windows, Microsoft Office, Windows server 2003, 2008 and 2012 r2, MS Exchange, MS Active Directory concepts, iPad platforms, Web 2.0 tools, Cloud storage and Google Docs
  • Knowledge/experience of RenWeb software beneficial
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field and/or considerable technology skills
  • Ability to solve technical problems and development of strategy for innovative solutions
  • Experience and proficiency with database management and import/export functions, particularly with a school information system program
  • Ability to setup and maintain network printers, interactive projectors, and a variety of other devices
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills and flexibility
  • Capacity to evaluate software and hardware for purchase and use
  • Experience in technology plan development and implementation, annual and long-term budgeting, reviewing vendor agreements and equipment purchasing
  • Capable of supporting an evolving environment using a variety of cloud-based applications

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Deals with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment
  • This 12-month position requires the ability to attend night and after school meetings and/or workshops
