Director of Digital and Computational Learning

In the fall of 2018, Loomis Chaffee opened the Pearse Hub for Innovation (The Phi), a multifaceted, cross-disciplinary, technologically advanced space that encourages innovation, collaboration, project-based learning, tinkering, design thinking, entrepreneurship, and other STEM/STEAM related initiatives, both within the confines of the current curriculum and outside of it.

In conjunction with the opening of The Phi and the development of its related programs, it is critical that the school expand in the digital and computational arena to prepare our students fully for their lives and professions in the 21st Century. We eagerly seek leadership in Digital and Computational Learning that will address the following:

  • Provide basic curricular offerings in computer science to include Introduction to Computer Science, College Level Computer Science, Design and Data Structures, Advanced Topics in Computer Science;
  • Beyond the acquisition of skills in computer science, provide basic and advanced computational education in an interdisciplinary fashion, looking for opportunistic ways to contribute to our wide-ranging liberal arts curriculum;

  • Provide course development and/or workshop exploration in Digital Modeling, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, the Digital Humanities, Gaming, the Politics of Social Media, Predictive Analysis, Digital Cultures, Ethical Hacking and Digital Problem Solving, Design Thinking in a Digital World, Big Data Analysis, Text Mining, and Application Creation.

A visionary with academic credentials and professional experience in the digital field will oversee and develop the program. This person will have the autonomy to build a comprehensive program that involves the entire school community through the development of courses and programs. The director will collaborate with department heads as well as the school’s various Centers, the LC Summer Program, and individuals beyond the confines of the campus to incorporate and integrate computational and digital programming across the curriculum and throughout the school.

Loomis Chaffee is a boarding school and in addition to fulfilling the duties associated with this directorship other responsibilities could include dormitory residence or association and participation in the afternoon program at the school in a manner commensurate with the candidate’s skills.
