POSITION: Director of Education Technology
REPORTS TO: Head of Senior School
START DATE: August 27, 2018
CONTRACT: Full-time (1.0), Continuing
 
 
POSITION SUMMARY
 
The Director of Information Technology is a BC certified teacher who leads WPGA’s strategic technology plan for our Senior School. This role combines teaching IT and other secondary school subjects to students in grades 8-12 as well as taking on the position of responsibility for identifying, selecting, and implementing the appropriate technology resources that will support the school’s instructional technology vision and goals. 
 
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Plan and teach technology related classes (other teachable subjects also required)
  • Prepare and deliver engaging, future-focused lesson plans and interactive learning activities/materials that follow BC curriculum standards 
  • Adapt instructional materials to students' individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Conduct formal and informal assessment of students, including report cards, progress reports and marking
  • Model and promote our core values and high standards of behaviour in and out of the classroom 
  • Support students and families with open, on-going communication
  • Actively participate in professional development sessions and faculty meetings
  • Assist in the design of a technology rich curriculum that improves student learning
  • Research, design and coordinate/conduct technology related lessons and training opportunities to teachers and staff
  • Establish a learning environment and culture which encourages creative and independent use of instructional technology
  • Research and be up to date on industry policies such as acceptable use of technology, copyright laws, and technology guidelines and support the implementation of these policies in a school setting
  • Research new technology, software and hardware solutions that would be effective in achieving the school’s instructional technology vision
  • Work in conjunction with the network administrator to ensure that both the network and educational technology needs for the school are met and reflected in both strategic planning and annual budget
  • Assist teachers with the integration of technology in their classrooms
  • Participate in technology-related professional development opportunities including self-study, workshops, and conferences
  • Assess and report on all aspects of technology related to educational goals of the school
  • Serve as a mentor to teachers and staff for technology use
  • Attend grade level and department meetings to assess and plan curriculum
  • Provide oversight for laptops and desktops used by students and teachers
  • Coordinate student technology clubs and independent study in technology
  • Communicate the technology strategy to Senior School staff and students
 
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in education
  • Valid BC teaching certification
  • Prior teaching experience in information technology required
  • Experience teaching a variety of secondary school subjects an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with instructional information technology
  • In depth knowledge of best practices as they relate to instructional information technology
  • Experience identifying and assessing technology opportunities
  • Experience managing a departmental budget
  • Ability to explain technical concepts and theories to non-technical audiences
  • Strong prioritization skills
