Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Office of Education Development and Innovation (OEDI), the Director of Education Technology will take the lead in the acquisition, integration, evaluation, improvement, and maintenance of the e-learning tools, academic software, and educational technology practices that support excellence in teaching and learning at the College. The Director will serve as an integral member of the OEDI team and will provide leadership in building faculty development programs in the areas of teaching strategies, instructional design, and educational innovation using the College’s e-learning resources. The Director will be responsible for supervising a team that supports faculty in their use of the LMS (currently Canvas) and other learning technologies, as well as communicating with key academic staff, including department chairs and coordinators, in order to provide tailored resources to the faculty. They will also track and integrate, as appropriate, emerging trends in technology, best practices, course design, and curriculum development.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist faculty to enhance learning through integration of technology best practices.

  • Serve procurement and implementation lead for new and replacement instructional/educational technologies.

  • Manage the faculty and student educational technology onboarding process, including maintenance and growth of the college’s online LMS onboarding courses.

  • Work with the IT Director to oversee the effective integration of technology in the delivery of online courses including but not limited to video streaming and mobile application technology.

  • Compile, interpret, and share data and information that can increase Online Education and the college’s effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Manage the department’s Instructional Technologist and student support staff.

  • Serve a primary point of contact with contracted instructional design consultants.

  • Work with the Director of Continuing Education to plan and coordinate new online certificate programs and online professional development opportunities for non-academic (CE & professional education) populations.

  • Provide best practice guidelines and quality assurance measures for online pedagogy, including the promotion of accessibility design standards, in collaboration with the college’s Academic Resource Center.

  • Establish procedures, policies and benchmarks for high quality online student learning experiences and achievement of student learning outcomes.

  • Consult to all programs across the college that utilize education technology practices and tools.

  • Attend conferences and online trainings related to best-practices and emerging trends in education technology.

  • Perform other duties as relevant that are applicable to education technology services at WJC.

Qualifications:

  • Command of Instructional Design methodologies, including ADDIE, Rapid Prototyping and Backwards Design

  • Experienced in using Educational Technology tools including video streaming, lecture capture, web conferencing, and course authoring tools.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Familiarity with online quality assurance standards (i.e. OSCQR, Quality Matters, OLC).

  • Familiarity with national accreditation standards for interstate postsecondary distance education (i.e. NC-SARA).

  • Ability to work autonomously with a focus on self-learning.

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or similar field. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Applicant must be able to assume employment in the U.S. without College sponsorship.
