Director of Educational Technology (Full-Time)

The Director of Educational Technology provides vision and leadership in all areas of technology with an emphasis on implementing the school’s strategic vision to integrate digital tools and practices throughout the curriculum. Accordingly, the primary responsibility of the Director of Educational Technology is to lead and assist the faculty in integrating digital technologies to support, enhance and extend learning. The Director of Educational Technology oversees all facets of educational technology planning,implementation and integration at the school. The Director of Educational Technology is also responsible for actively researching new and emerging educational technologies to ensure that Urban remains a leader nationally among independent schools in effective and innovative uses of digital tools and practices.

The Director of Educational Technology reports to the Academic Dean and works closely with the Dean of Faculty and the Academic Dean to mentor and support teachers. The Director of Educational Technology as a senior-level school administrator who works closely with the deans, the department chairs and the Head of School.

The Director of Educational Technology is a 12-month, salaried position. A comprehensive benefits package is provided, which includes medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance and the TIAA/CREF retirement plan. The start date for this position is July 1, 2016.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and Support Faculty Growth Initiatives

Provide support for faculty in technology integration and blended learning:
develop and facilitate faculty professional development in digital tools and practices
provide targeted and direct support for individual teachers
provide curriculum project support for teachers
Collaborate with Department Chairs on department-specific needs and growth opportunities.

Lead Existing and New Technology Initiatives

Develop strategies and initiatives to promote effective use of digital tools
Research and share new trends and opportunities in educational technology
Recommend new equipment, software and practices
Identify and promote digital tools, practices, and resources to enhance global education in Urban classes and curriculum
Provide support for UrbanX Labs courses and activities
In coordination with other instructional leaders, provide support and promote innovative practices for those who are teaching more vigorously ‘blended’ Urban courses
In coordination with Class Deans and the faculty, provide leadership and programs for mindful use of technology by students and for good citizenship on social media
Lead the Digital Innovator’s Group (Urban’s technology committee) of teachers, staff and students
Network with regional and national technology leaders and initiatives
Facilitate and monitor the school’s transition to the new learning management system and identify and disseminate effective practices and for students and teachers
Oversee and facilitate student and faculty laptop program.

Oversee Student Growth and Support Initiatives

Provide as-needed support of students in consort with the Tech Support Specialist
Facilitate processes and programs to ensure basic student competency with Urban technology systems
Develop strategies and initiatives to encourage effective use of digital technologies.

Outreach and Advocacy

Lead outreach efforts to maintain Urban’s reputation as a nationally recognized leader in educational technology
Host visitors to Urban attracted to the school’s integrated technology program
Collaborate on program development for the school’s Center for Innovative Teaching.

Department Supervision

Supervise Tech Department staff including:
UrbanX Labs Coordinator
Technology Support Specialist
Other employment and contracts as necessary
In collaboration with the CFO, direct the Director of Information Services to manage and assess the school’s technology infrastructure and systems as they pertain to educational and classroom needs
Develop annual and long-term budgets and supervise purchasing
Evaluate and recommend school-wide educational hardware and software platforms.

Teaching

Teach between one and three courses per year in the area/discipline of one’s training and expertise.
