Job Description

The Office of the Dean in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University seeks applicants for the position of Director of Engineering Computer and Technology Systems. This position will be responsible for the following:

  1. System Administration – Provide leadership in planning and implementation of projects for computer operations and enterprise systems administration; develop effective system processes and procedures. Administer the active directory that controls the working environment of user and computer accounts for the entire Russ College of Engineering and Technology. Make recommendations for future upgrades; evaluate and modify system’s performance; maintain integrity of the network, server deployment, and security; review adequacy of emergency response plans; interface with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues; Interface with central Office of Information Technology to resolve service related issues. Responsibilities include AD group, directory tree structure, email-enabled distribution group, NAS storage access, and Virtual Desktop administration;

  2. Desktop Support – Direct a staff of engineering students as GA Technical Assistants and student hourly workers to provide critical computer and technology-related support to faculty, staff, and students in both academic and research departments of the Russ College (1900 students; 250 faculty and staff); maintain network facilities in individual machines, such as drivers and settings of personal computers and other devices; maintain network and system security; provide technical guidance and training to other staff, faculty, and students;

  3. Budget Planning – Oversee a $500,000 information technology budget along with a large inventory of existing hardware and software within the Russ College. Inventory capital equipment items and review FMS monthly reports for the college; recycle and redistribute older equipment; plan, evaluate, and purchase new computer and electronic devices for computer labs, office, and research centers; perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning; maintain current and correct documentation;

  4. License Management – Administer 10-16 software license packages, housed on several servers, for both the Russ College and the University at large. Help other university units define and design solutions for their environments; develop and implement plans, schedules, and requirements for deployment of new software systems. Packages include: Autodesk, Matlab, Labview-Multisim, ChemCad, Remcom, Unigraphics, Ilog; control print management for printers and MFD systems for the Russ College.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in computer science, information technology, electronics engineering, or related field.

Significant experience (8+ years preferred) in managing enterprise-level IT systems and software packages in an academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, electronics engineering, or related field.
