Essential Duties

Directs, supervises, and works with IT Database Professionals, Programmers, and Analysts, and Systems Administrators for the installation, upgrade, operation, troubleshooting, programming support and technical support of numerous administrative systems such as Banner INB, Banner SSB, DegreeWorks, MyCampus Portal, and other administrative software.

Plan and manages integrations between various new and existing systems. Gathers user needs and requirements and then plans, designs, directs, and implements new administrative systems. Provides technical expertise in the analysis, design, and development of relational database systems and applications.

Provides support for Oracle and other database systems. Responsible for overseeing or performing database installations, upgrades, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Provides leadership for all Banner products. Responsible for overseeing of performing Banner installation, upgrades, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Works directly with the CIO to maintain strategic direction of Information Systems computer operations.

Prepares and administers the Information Systems Departmental budget.

Develops, recommends, and implements policies and procedures for the Information Systems Department.

Provides leadership in the identification an analysis of new and innovative projects that improve system performance, reliability, and ease of use to help the University operate more effectively and efficiently.

Reviews and analyzes the testing of systems and programs to ensure completeness of controls, adherence to standards, security, completion of documentation, quality of output and efficiency of systems and programs.

Develops departmental administrative goals on an annual basis in the interest of improving departmental efficiency and overall University effectiveness.

Coordinates with the CIO to approve and prioritize projects; manage the projects and project portfolio as it relates to the selection, acquisition, development, and installation of integrated enterprise systems.

Consults with appropriate administrators to develop and maintain a technology plan that supports current and future University needs.

Responsible for performance management of Information Systems personnel and recommends staffing, hiring, and reclassifications.

Oversees management of student help desk and McDevitt Hall printers and labs.

Participates as a valuable member of the senior IT management team.

Performs various duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree required.

Experience: 
Requires at least 5 years of experience. Minimum of 10 years of experience in progressively responsible positions in IT. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a role responsible for managing or directing technological operations. Excellent knowledge of Oracle database, Unix, SQL, PL/SQL and Argos. Solid programming experience using C, Java, and Groovy/Grails. Proven experience in planning, organization, management, and deployment. Proven ability to work as part of a team with offices inside and outside of IT to address the organizations goals and objectives. Demonstrated ability to apply technology solutions to business problems. In depth knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as they relate to technology issues. Solid knowledge and understanding of IT security issues and practices to mitigate risk.

Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for strategic and operational leadership of the University’s enterprise application systems. This responsibility includes design, development, support, and maintenance. The director will work closely with the CIO and representatives of administrative and academic departments to develop and execute the University’s administrative technology plans. The position provides management with analysis and recommendations to improve and expand applications, system integration, and application performance. Responsibilities include management and ongoing implementation of the Banner ERP system. This also includes the supervision, training, and evaluation of support staff and prioritization and planning of projects.
