Reports to: CFO

Supervises: IT Department staff

 

Summary:  The Director of Information Technology oversees all IT related functions at the Academy, both academic and administrative, and is responsible for ensuring that the information technology needs of the community are met, and that appropriate IT systems are put in place to further the goals of the Academy.

 

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversee development and implementation of IT strategies;

  • Manage  IT related projects;

  • Advise the Head of School, CFO and Board on future IT directions;

  • Oversee IT support for faculty, administrators, staff, students, and summer programs;

  • Administer IT budget;

  • Oversee support of third-party administrative applications such as Blackbaud, OnBoard, Altertus and GSuite;

  • Oversee support of academic applications and assist the Studies Office with scheduling and electronic grade submittals;

  • Perform Database Administrator functions;

  • Oversee telephone services and manage phone systems;

  • Install and oversee security cameras and other peripheral devices related to security;

  • Administer IT policies and procedures, including security, disaster recovery, continuity planning, etc.;

  • Configure and maintain the technology as related to Campus Emergency Systems

  • Oversee development and maintenance of IT infrastructure and systems;

  • Coordinate provision and maintenance of computer systems for administrators, faculty, staff;

  • Coordinate IT-related training of new faculty and staff;

  • Revise and annually update student and employee handbook acceptable use policies;

  • Attend administrative team meetings;

  • Participate in aspects of school life typical to a boarding school;

  • Monitor network resources and be on-call in case of IT related emergencies;

  • Ensure internet and network resources are available;

  • Oversee email, printing, copier, server, and other Network resources

  • Configure and maintain the network at Vermont Academy, including servers, switches, the firewall, and all network services

  • Serve on the Academy's Crisis Response Team
