The Director of the Office Information Technology (OIT) engages in the development and support of innovative technologies that assist the teaching, learning, research, student-life, and administrative operations of the Academy. The Director provides strategic leadership and management to all areas of information technology and will be personally involved with the practical implementation of information technologies and data security initiatives. 
The Director manages a staff of 21 full-time and 3 part-time employees and, in collaboration with the dean of administration and finance and the Academy community, will develop and oversee campus-wide technology policies, procedures, services and facilities. Additionally, the Director manages all information technology resources including personnel, budget, systems, and data and telecommunications networks and leads or is a member of a variety of committees on campus. 
In Andover’s collaborative and collegial culture, the Director works throughout the Academy to create effective strategies for integrating technology into the curriculum as well as within offices across the campus. Reporting to the Dean of Administration and Finance, who, in turn, reports to the Head of the School, the Director works with other senior members of the school’s administration including the heads of human resources, facilities, finance, and business offices. The successful candidate will also understand the prolonged and irregular working hours of this type of position. 
Duties and Responsibilities 

The Director has the opportunity to provide further definition and guidance to the Academy in the following key ways:

  • Lead the OIT department sustaining a culture of teamwork, respect, collective pride, individual professional and personal development while continuing its service-oriented approach to technology on campus ensuring a cost-effective and efficient IT function capable of addressing the diverse needs of a world-class school and its constituents.  
  • Foster a working environment which encourages innovation, collaboration, transparency, and accountability.
  • Assess needs of the community and ensure that technology processes and systems integrate effectively with other systems at the school to meet these needs. 
  • Communicate proactively within and beyond the school to seek out and identify new opportunities to develop value-added business products and services.
  • Interact with Academy leadership in a manner which promotes teamwork, credibility, and trust. 
  • Provide direction and assistance in the development and execution of long-term technology plans that address faculty, student, staff, and alumni expectations and report clearly and regularly to stakeholders on progress towards objectives. 
  • Stay current on technology advancements, emerging standards and regulations, and industry trends relevant to the school’s ongoing success.  Maintain an awareness of major IT initiatives across secondary education, incorporating them whenever they may advance the Academy’s mission.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate with a preference for a Master’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 10 years of technology management, preferably in an educational environment.
  • Highly organized with a passion for technology and proven leadership, management, and decision-making skills. 
  • Hands-on manager who is willing and able to participate in the delivery and support of technologies when needed.
  • Able to develop and lead strategic initiatives in IT that advance the Academy’s mission and are consistent with its values.
  • Proven supervisory and staff development skills.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and work with vendors and consultants
  • Exceptional communication and customer-service skills.
  • Understanding and appreciation for the mission and culture of Phillips Academy.
