Position Objective

Clover Park Technical College celebrates the many individuals that make up our community and embraces the opportunity to learn from both our differences and similarities.

As Director of Information Technology, job satisfaction will be coming your way, as you solve technology challenges and lead CPTC's technical team in doing the same. You will engage in campus-wide IT planning, budget and contract management, leadership and oversight, as you manage the college's computer network telephone, video, and security systems; print management, and campus WiFi access. As director, the expectation will be that you are conversant with all aspects of technology on campus, and have a primary focus on problem-solving for all customers. As our representative for Technology, you will provide transparent communication to our campus community via email announcements and occasional presentations. You will oversee the design and implementation of hardware and software solutions for the college, making sure that staff are properly trained and competent in order to manage equipment and programs under their own areas of responsibility. It would be your job to monitor, document and test outcomes for all technology at the college.

Within the first year you will:

  • Build a technology road map and develop a vision for CPTC Information Technology.
  • Maximize the college's ability to provide high-quality integrated solutions through web services to our core operational systems.
  • Serve as high-level strategic director and advisor to CPTC's technical team.

 

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

Information Technology Leadership

  • Provide leadership in anticipating future technological needs while being cognizant
    of developments in computer and educational technology. Collaborate with campus departments to identify and support technology needs and educate the campus community on systems security.
  • Provide strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and management of the information and technology systems for the college. Stay abreast of emerging trends and technology and recommend college actions as a part of strategic planning efforts.
  • Recommend, develop, and administer information technology policies and procedures.
  • Meet regularly with internal stakeholders to understand technology needs and collaborate on college projects.
  • Review and approve all college technology purchases; negotiate with vendors and assist with the bidding process for major purchases.
  • Manage the IT department, multifunctional devices, and telephone budgets.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for the ctcLink implementation.
  • Ensure all Information Technology staff members are well trained and knowledgeable regarding Information Technology processes, procedures and systems.
  • Effectively cross-train staff as needed to avoid interruption of service(s) and to provide the college with a smooth-running and efficient Information Technology department. 

Network Administration and Security

  • Oversee the ongoing development, implementation, and management of the college's networks, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Supervise the design and implementation of network security to be as cost effective and reliable as possible. 
  • Maintain network equipment and software to industry standards.
  • Support the Security Department with technical issues in support of security cameras on campus.

Help Desk, Technology Support, Telephones and Multifunctional Devises

  • Coordinate the work order system for technology support.
  • Oversee and provide direction to the computer network technicians.
  • Oversee the college's telephones and multifunctional devise program.
  • Produce user reports and consult regularly with the Vice President for Finance & Administration on cost and utilization issues.

Emergency Management and College Support

  • Serve as the IT point person and be on call to respond to emergency management needs.
  • Ensure that the early alert system is kept current and operational and that the IT infrastructure is always in a state of readiness to handle emergencies.
  • Serve as a member of the college's Emergency Management Team.
  • Represent the IT department on college committees and task forces.
  • Actively participate in community and technical college system meetings and communications.
  • Design and oversee end user training.
  • Serve as a member of the President's Cabinet.
  • Attend professional development activities and other college-related events. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Security or related field; or equivalent education and experience.
  • Three years of progressively increasing responsibility, managing in a college or similar computer environment for at least 200 users.
  • Experience with complex project management and system integration.
  • Broad knowledge of best practices in hardware and software configuration management.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement vision through short and long-term planning.
  • Experience with institutional budgeting processes including strategic forecasting.
  • Demonstrated successful team building.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Master's Degree in a related field of Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, etc.
  • Certificates of proficiency in current network administration or database management from a recognized industry technology leader.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating or implementing a major information system leading to the successful operation of an organization.
