The Organization

The Evergreen school is located in Shoreline, Washington approximately half a mile north of the city of Seattle. It is fully accredited by NWAIS (Northwest Association of Independent Schools). Founded in 1963 to provide a nurturing environment for children with extraordinary minds, Evergreen has grown from an enrollment of six in 1963 to a current enrollment of 478 students.  The campus facilities have also grown in recent years with the opening of a new gym and theatre in 2000 and the opening of two new academic and administrative buildings in the fall of 2015. The school celebrated its fiftieth birthday in the 2013-2014 school year, and has just completed a campaign for the building project and endowment.  Today, in the words of Evergreen’s mission statement: We inspire and empower highly capable, creative learners to lead with curiosity, compassion and courage in an ever evolving global community.
 

The Opportunity

The director of information technology reports directly to the business officer. S/he is responsible for the overall planning, organization, integration, implementation, and maintenance of all IT functions at the school. S/he will work closely with the technology integration specialist in the development and implementation of various curriculum-based initiatives to integrate technology into the instructional program. This is a salaried, benefits-eligible, full-time 1.0 FTE position.
 

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations

 

The director of information technology will:

  • Develop a strategic and long-range technology plan for the school.
  • Provide leadership, vision, and day-to-day management of the IT department, including data network and backup systems, firewall and security issues, databases, servers, printers, and telephone systems.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend new and emerging technologies for classroom and administrative uses or to improve the current infrastructure.
  • In conjunction with the technology integration specialist, promote the use of technology to support classroom learning and optimize student achievement.
  • Supervise personnel in the IT department.
  • In collaboration with the communications department, oversee the technical side of the school’s web content platform.
  • Develop and manage the school’s computer/device operating and IT budget.
  • Manage vendor relations, procurement, installation, and implementation of information systems.
  • Ensure the coordination, security, and efficiency of network infrastructure.
  • In coordination with the registrar and data analyst, develop and maintain the school’s databases and internal and external networks.
  • Remain current on new developments in the areas of software, hardware, networks, telecommunications, training, and maintenance.
  • Manage inventory of all school-owned or leased equipment including desktops/laptops, iPads, SMART Boards, projectors, copiers, printers, etc.
  • Provide maintenance and support for all computer labs, classroom technology, office technology, and audio-visual systems throughout the school.
  • Assess and respond to IT needs as voiced by faculty, administration, and staff.
  • Attend faculty meetings.
  • Plan and supervise internal and external training of the school’s staff.
  • Maintain an active role in the local and state technology community.
  • Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the business officer.

  • Support after hours events such as the school auction, board meetings, speaker events and school dances to name a few.
  • Be able to work on hands and knees or in confined spaces to fix technical needs.
  • Be able to lift 20-50 pounds
  • Be on call for crisis management situations

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field (information technology, computer science, systems management, or related discipline)
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Professional technical certifications from Microsoft, Apple, Cisco, etc., preferred
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in the development, installation, and maintenance of information systems
  • Current and in-depth knowledge of network architecture; telecommunication; wireless, mobile, and cloud technologies
  • Knowledge of administrative and academic database systems a plus
  • Demonstrated success in a supervisory/management role
  • Strong organizational, technical, and analytical skills
  • Proven success developing and balancing an annual budget
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Problem-solver with a high degree of diplomacy
  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Detail-oriented
  • Able to work collaboratively with a team

 

Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s background and experience and will be competitive with similar positions in Seattle area independent schools.
