Job Description

Under the direction of the Chief Academic Officer, the Director of Information Technology is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and strategic direction to build a state of the art campus technology infrastructure that supports the future needs of students, faculty and staff in multiple and diverse graduate education programs. The Director partners with institutional administrators on identifying and executing information technology initiatives that support university-wide strategic priorities. The Director builds and leads a high-performing Information Technology team, and ensures an outstanding level of customer service is provided to all members of the campus community. The position is part of the overall Touro College University System (TCUS) IT management team with a dotted line report to the TCUS Vice President for Technology/Chief Information Officer (VP/CIO).

Job Duties
  • Reports to the Chief Academic Officer and maintains regular written and in-person communication regarding departmental activities, projects and new initiatives.

  • Meets regularly with the TCUS VP/CIO and other TCUS IT leaders with regard to TCUS enterprise-wide strategic planning, budget, and operations for IT. Balances local versus system-level resourcing to continue to grow IT infrastructure.  

  • Provides leadership, management and guidance to the IT Team and ensures an outstanding level of customer service and technical support is provided to all members of the campus community. Brings an organized and coordinated effort to all IT and support services. 

  • Responsible for building a state of the art IT infrastructure to support the future needs of students, faculty and staff.  

  • Providing creative and collaborative leadership for shaping mid and long-term strategic direction in IT and aligning this with staffing, staff development, and workflows. Leading outcome-oriented assessment and strategic planning activities for IT.

  • Creates a culture of partnership and collaboration with campus leadership and other stakeholders across academic and administrative divisions with a student-centered focus. Partners across campus departments in the implementation of IT policies and procedures, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and accreditation needs and reporting. 

  • Manages a portfolio of key strategic information technology projects in conjunction with TCUS IT and the TCUS Project Management Office for IT to support the future needs of students, faculty and staff. 

  • Maintains the operational integrity of the technologies and services provided to the campus community.

  • Manages a highly efficient service desk and the coordination of the TUC Service Desk with the TouroOne Non-Stop Helpdesk and other Touro help operations.

  • Oversees all functions of the Information Technology department and keeps hardware and software systems operating efficiently.

  • Builds and manages an Information Technology budget that is aligned with institutional strategic priorities.

  • Develops processes for problem management and resolution that can return services to normal operation with minimal delays.  

  • Ensures current job descriptions and annual evaluations are completed for each IT employee. Provides opportunities for ongoing professional development for the IT team.

  • Serves on the University Emergency Operations Group, partners in building the IT-facilities infrastructure that supports campus safety, and is responsible for development and maintenance of Emergency Response and Business Continuity Plans for IT.

  • Member of the institution’s website management team with responsibility to manage and support the university’s web hosting and content management system.

  • Develop, implement, and coordinate policies and procedures within IT and with the campus community.

  • Identify, vet, and manage IT-related vendor and partnerships. 

  • Identifies, creates, and implements training resources for students, faculty, and staff.

The Director builds a high-performing Information Technology team and supervises IT Professionals who are responsible for providing a wide array of technology services to students, faculty and staff across academic, administrative and executive divisions. The Director is responsible for recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation and disciplinary actions. The Director mentors and advises staff on issue resolution, service provisioning, and how to effectively manage and support the institution’s technology infrastructure.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems or related field.  

  • Knowledge of ITIL processes for service management required 

  • PMP certification and familiarity with the Project Management Body of Knowledge preferred.

  • Minimum of three years of experience managing an Information Technology department and supporting enterprise-class information technology systems, preferably in higher education.

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal with a wide array of stakeholders.

  • Demonstrates leadership, collaborative, relationship-building and effective team building.

  • Broad familiarity with Information Technology systems, processes and implementation techniques.

  • Effective organizational skills to manage concurrent assignments, priorities and projects in a highly-demanding teaching and learning environment.

  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with campus stakeholders and vendors.

  • Maintain a customer-focused attitude dedicated to helping the institution meet its strategic objectives. 

  • The ability to develop a cohesive and collaborative IT team.
