Wilberforce University is looking for an experienced IT Director to oversee all IT (Information Technology) functions. The IT Director must plan, direct and control the overall infrastructure related to the network, telecommunications, server and database services for the University. The ideal candidate will be experienced in creating and implementing IT policies and systems that will meet objectives and provide vision and leadership. The goal is to ensure IT systems and people are effective and functioning within the limits of budget, time and specifications of the university.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the IT department’s operational and strategic planning, including fostering innovation, planning projects and organizing.

  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all IT systems, including telecommunications, servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, peripherals and office equipment.

  • Benchmark, analyze, report on and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT systems.

  • Oversee provision of end-user services and training, including help desk and technical support services.

  • Work with departments to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.

  • Keep current with the latest technologies.

  • Manage financial aspects of the IT department, including purchasing, budgeting and budget review.

  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.

  • Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures.

  • Facilitate vendor, outsourcer and consultant and service agreements.

  • Implement & maintain a though inventory process for asset management for IT hardware, software and equipment.

  • Manage IT staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation

  • Establish regular written and in-person communications with end users.

  • Work Collaboratively with WU Media and audio services.

  • Manage classroom technologies, digital learnings, and learning management systems.

  • Research and apply for technology grant funding.

  • Management of University Website

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven ability to lead

  • Software as a Service implementation and management experience

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of industry standards

  • Working knowledge of Banner ERP; Cloud Service Providers; Windows Operating Platform; Microsoft Office 365; SQL and other technologies as requested

  • Experience overseeing, designing, and deploying highly secure and available networks and applications.

  • Excellent judgment; strong follow-up and workflow management skills

  • Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Information Technology related field of study.

  • Proven 5 years experience as IT director or similar role

  • Experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications

  • Sound understanding of computer systems (hardware/software), networks etc.

  • Experience in controlling information technology budget

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Experience overseeing, designing, and deploying highly secure and available networks and applications.

  • Must have experience in IT Management
