Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University, of New Jersey, is seeking a Director of Information Technology for The Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research. This position oversees Network infrastructure monitoring, incident & problem management, network equipment and infrastructure analysis and repair. The Director of IT is also responsible for network equipment configuration & service provisioning, support ticket management, IFH Call center and support services, and service outage communication.

Among the key duties of this position are the following: 

  • Manages daily operations of Rutgers University IFH and provides expertise for functions supervised.

  • Directs complex activities and lends technical assistance to others as needed.

  • Develops and updates documentation of internal operating policies and procedures. 

  • Serves as a primary source of information regarding network infrastructure health and incident analysis. 

  • Coordinates, schedules, and participates in change management request approval. 

  • Provides analysis of incidents for remediation, continuous service improvements, and reports

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • BS/BA in computer science, engineering or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in IT. 

  • Also requires a minimum of 5 years related IT experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrable knowledge of problem and incident management, network monitoring, and service management applications. 

  • Experience with organizing and supervising shift teams. 

  • Ability to provide training and oversight for university personnel including IT staff, research faculty and staff.

  • Experience as a technical supervisor or lead in a support organization or infrastructure

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities

  • Excellent customer service and problem management skills

  • Possess knowledge of University systems and protocols

  • Strong overall understanding of Information infrastructure components

  • Strong communications, consultative and interpersonal skills, including oral, written and presentation

  • Demonstrated teamwork, collaboration, facilitation, and negotiation skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a technical supervisor in call center environment.

  • Experience with network management applications & protocols.

  • Experience with service management applications & protocols.

  • Supervise employees in the IT department

  • Researching new products and keeping up with the latest technology innovations

  • Recommending new systems and software to senior executives.

  • Organize and implementing disaster recovery systems.

  • Ability to understand complex network and system architectures.

  • Possess excellent analytical skills and leadership skills to lead an IT team to support the organization’s needs.
